Whether or not the Independent covers the Rams or does not cover the Rams IMO does not matter at this point in the season. There will be time for that discussion later. My personal opinion is that they have done a good job of covering the Rams and all local teams throughout the season. Sometimes a score may not have been posted as quick as we (fans) would have liked but a lot of times that is due to the score not being reported after a long road trip.

 

We preach in every post for the kids to remain focused at the task at hand but sometimes we fail to do the same. Remember that the players read these boards and any distraction, however little it appears may be just enough to get off course. The little things do matter. The players look at some adults as role models so we need to be aware of the example we are setting for them to follow.

Your a wise man cvill. I agree, we need to stay focused just as we expect the players to.

 

Discussions about trivial things is for the off season, and this is not the off season. The players, coaches, and fans should be focused on the task at hand, and that is Clinton County. Nothing more, nothing less.

I think that Raceland has had a wonderful season, and I hope that they win the big trophy. But it may be a little more than ambitious to think that they could win against JC. I love your enthusiasm, but my advice for the baddest chihuahua on the block, be careful when you take on a pitbull, even if that pitbull ain't the baddest on his block.

Great post. I never said we were better. I just said that in the real world, the best sometimes loses and loses the number one ranking. Do you really think Buster Douglass was better than Mike Tyson? He was one night, but he got the title. IMHO, Beechwood is still the number 1 team in 1A, but they got beat and we switched places. Are we really number 1? We'll know after we win it all or lose, whichever comes first. Like I said, it was a point I argue and I believe to be true, but it is just my opinion. I love sharing my opinion and hearing others- it's what makes the world go round.

I was going to stay out of all the Daily Independent talks untill I saw this post. Cville, you are 100% correct. I for one am very pleased with the coverage this Raceland team has gotten. Also, a poster earlier mentioned the D.I. editor M. Maynard. I wanted to say that Mr. Maynard was a very good sportswriter for the paper before his position as editor now. Maynard was also doing the commentary this season on the televised games on our local ch.24. The most recent was the Raceland/Russell game and imo Maynard went above and beyond what he needed to in praising Raceland and complimenting the Raceland program, players and coaching staff and it's tradition through the years and not just this season. I for one was very pleased.

I didn't mean to go on but I just wanted to say that I agree that ALL focus should be on Clinton Co. and the 1st round playoff game Friday night.

Should any D.I. employees or writers read this, I want to say thank you for the coverage that you have given Raceland Football. :thumb:

I know that unless there is some catastrophic event which distorts the laws of physics, this is going to be a lopsided win and we want to simply get through this game and on to the second round. But…I hope the Rams and Raceland community can slow down just a tad and really enjoy every second of this playoff run. Regardless of what talent the Rams have coming up in rank next year, this current season is truly special and will be gone in just a few weeks…perhaps gone in just a few days.

The only fact you posted was that Raceland was undefeated, and ranked #1 in the AP for class A. The Daily Independent poll is based on who they feel is the best team, not who has the best record. The pollsters at the Daily Independent feel that Johnson Central is the better of the two teams. For them to come in at #2 is plenty of respect, but you refuse to see thru those orange colorered glasses. You refused to answer my question as to whether you honestly feel that Raceland is better than Johnson Central, or if you feel they would beat Johson Central.

Thank you, Painter. The coaching staff has been preaching a very similar messege all week. Actually, all year! This team has had a unique ability to stay focused on the task at hand. This week, they are truly only concerned with Clinton Co. Are they confident, I'd say yes, but only because they believe in themselves and each other.

My wife and I enjoy spending the off the field time with the boys on Thursday nights. You can really get attached, as if they were your own. I was dreading the playoffs, because that means these young men will soon be done as players and I can't seem to accept that yet. They were the Sophmores when I started helping the football team and I just kind of went through them growing up as fine young men. These boy's parents should be extremely proud.
