Congrats to Madison Central. I wonder if Quianoo (spelling?) played for Boone as I assumed he would not play and Boone would struggle. Sounds like a crazy finish and great comeback by MC. WOW!

Wow... :eek: I bet that was awesome to see...

First off, hats off to Boone County, they brought a nice crowd and probably should have won this game. They have a solid team and a rematch between these two in the semi's is not out of the question, of course if both teams advance in their respective regions.

 

In the first half, Boone County threw 3 interceptions on 5 pass attempts. MC had a 50 yard Keyshawn Simpson TD catch called back by penalty and Zach Coldiron was picked off in the endzone by a Boone Co. DB. Halftime score 0-0.

 

In the second half, Boone took a 3-0 lead....MC countered with an Isaiah Kavanaugh TD run to make it 7-3.......Boone County then scored 2 rushing TDs to push the lead to 16-7 with 5 minutes to go in the game. This is were the game got interesting; Tyler Mays returned the Rebel kickoff for a TD to make it 16-14. Rebels moved the ball and I think everyone in the stadium assumed the game was over when the Rebels picked up a first down with 2:30 to go.......Indians stopped the next two downs for no gain, used their last timeout and came through (finally) on 3rd down......Boone County punts to the 10 yard line on 4th down with 30 seconds to go in the game....1st down Zach Coldiron throws a 10 yard hook to Tyler Mays, who laterals the ball to Keyshawn Simpson, who goes 90 yards for the score. Crazy/amazing play that I have seen the Indians run before without any success (Lincoln game 2006, GRC 2006 are two that come to mind).....Boone gets the ball back with 15 seconds to go but is stopped. :banana:

 

Boone County continually pounded the ball on the Indian defense but their turnovers in the 1st half killed them.

 

I have to say I hope I see more of what I'll call the "Tyler Mays package" and the "Eddie Rose package" on offense next week against Bullitt Central. :sssh:

How can a good, well-coached team throw 3 interceptions on 5 passing attempts in the first half? I feel certain that Boone County has the athletes in the school who can pitch and catch the football, just to keep the other team honest a little bit. Why does the coaching staff refuse to buy into a balanced attack?

This style of running the tailback 50+ times a game isn't going to get the Rebels very far in the playoffs. If the ultimate goal is to win a 6A state championship, you can not get past Trinity and St. Xavier with this style, nor can you probably get past some other teams.

 

This is the 21st century.........a balanced offense is the key!

Granted I haven't seen Male or Fern Creek play, but I could see Madison Central, Boone County, Henry Clay or Scott County come out of the semis.....all these teams are pretty evenly matched and should provide for some intense playoff games.......sadly, the state championship game will be ugly, early.

The 3rd pick was a bomb in the endzone at the end of the 1st half so that is a mulligan IMO.....the other two were just bad throws that the MC DB made a good jump on.....and I really don't blame Boone's coach at all for grinding it out against MC, they have traditionally struggled to stop the run

I agree its that old school mentality. They ran Q like 50 times the other week, he is now injured. Oppenheimer is only a sophomore and he carried 46 times. Im sure he is sitting in a hot tub this morning.
