Max Oldham, BGHS kicker, broke the state high school record last night for consecutive PAT's. He hit his 76th straight, before having his 77th blocked. The previous record was 75 set this season by Russell's Jason Dolly who hit his 75th and got his 76th blocked. Congratulations to Max, who has just recently come back from a serious ankle injury (tore 3 ligaments) on getting this record.

As I promised earlier, here is the scoring rundown.

After a scoreless first qtr, senior RB Tevin Barksdale finally broke the ice with an eight yd run with 7:55 left in the first half. "Automatic Max" Oldham booted PAT #73, and the Purples led 7-0. With only 45 seconds left before halftime, senior QB J.P. Jackson executed a QB sneak from one yd out. Oldham hit #74, and the Purples led a fired up Raider team 14-0 at the half.

Junior RB Lavance Anderson scored on a five yd run after BGHS ate up the first 3:59 of the third qtr. Oldham hit #75 in a row, and BGHS led 21-0. East got on the board with a nine yd run by QB Andrew Alvey with 3:49 left in the third qtr. Shenard Holton, who has already signed to play for U of L, ran in the 2pt conversion, and the Purples held a 21-8 lead going into the fourth qtr.

Just six seconds into the fourth qtr, junior WR Sam Howard snagged a nine yd TD strike from Jackson. Oldham hit the record breaking #76, and the Purples led 28-8. But the Raiders weren't about to give up yet. Holton scored on an 11 yd run. His running mate, Antonius Owens, ran over the 2pt conversion, and the Purples' lead was cut to 28-16 with 7:43 left in the game. With 5:34 left in the game, T. Barksdale put the game out of reach with a 26 yd run to paydirt. Sadly, that's where Oldham's streak came to an end. A Raider managed to get in and block the PAT attempt. That's where the scoring ended, with the Purples on top of the Raiders 34-16.

That was the 30th win for the Purples in 31 games between the two schools. Oldham's miss was only the second in his career with BGHS. His other miss came at the hands of Warren Central early last season.:D
