There's no doubt Scott Co. is one of the best:

Positives: talent, teaching position, tradition, location, facility, community support, 3 feeder program middle schools, many many AAU teams cultivating young talent

Negatives: very tough region competition every year, very tough district every year

Other obvious choices would include: Lex Cath, Madison Central, Dunbar, Henry Clay with the same positives and negatives as Scott Co.

Male, Ballard, and PRP have long standing tradition and I would put them on the list.

Mason Co. and GRC are heavily populated areas in a 10th region filled with small schools and rural schools.

Simon Kenton has a great facility and strong community support. The coach would probably only have one prep all day. A true lack of a football program puts basketball in the limelight. A weak district compared to other 8th region districts almost guarantees a regional appearance. SK has only lost one district game in their time in the 8th Region.

Tradition matched by only a few.

Scott County does have some great support overall. NewCath has good support overall and Highlands just keeps getting better and better.

Marshall County is probably the best from Regions 1-3. It has all the things mentioned.....facilities, $$$, support, tradition, talent...plus a district that they have dominated for 30 years. Also 3 good feeder middle schools which is an advantage due to the fact that every other team in the region has only 1 middle school.

Mines got to be Montgomery County, pretty good talent, 20 minutes from Lexington, top of the line facilities including the new gym, Montgomery County has to be in the top 10.

Scott County is in a league by itself at this point.

Location: great loacation, 20 minutes from Lexington

School size: 1700+ students, lots of talent walking the halls of GRC

District: Biggest competition for the past few years had been Montgomery Co. Most likely a regional apperance every year.

Coaching staff: top notch.:thumb:

I would put GRC as one of the top five places to teach, coach and live.

No one is mentioning Covington Holmes. I have never been to Cov. Holmes, but it helps to coach good players. The last few seasons Holmes has been loaded with talent. I know in the past they have had some disciplinary issues, but it appears they have a great group right now. I believe that would be a good place to coach.

Best fundraiser Toyota raffle.........I have posted before that this is the best fudraiser in the state. Scott Co. has enlisted many other programs around the state to help raise money for their program. Whoever came up with this fundraiser is a genius. When you can get you competitors to do your fundraising you have done something. I think they bring in more money from this fundraiser than many schools collect in total gate for all sports. We all know it takes money to have a great program.

 

Impact talent transfering to Scott Co. anually......this is obviously the sign of a good program and for a coach this is a dream situation.

Scott County is in a league by itself at this point.

Coach Hicks has really done a great job building the program. And seems to have had the support to do so. Scott Co. has always been pretty good, but since Coach Hicks got there they have been an elite program.
