Spencer County 38 Henry County 25

Featured Replies

I was blasted on this site several weeks ago for saying Henry County hadn't proven themselves because they beat up on weak teams to begin the year. Now they finish 0-3 in the district and will travel to Louisville Central to open the playoffs. If you don't play quality opponents, 5-0 starts do not make you state title contenders.

District finish:

North Oldham 3-0

Spencer Co. 2-1

Western Hills 1-2

Henry County 0-3

North was very impressive in a 17-7 win over WH tonight...

They played the same schedule a year ago, swept the district, and lost to 3 of the "weak" teams on their non-district schedule and were 3-2 after the first five games a year ago (does that make them title contenders-just trying to fit your logic). So what's the difference now? Congrats to North on a great district run, but their schedule isn't a giant killer either-Not an intended slight-BTW, they have a very good team and will represent the district well. The only team in the district that played truely tough teams was Western Hills, and they will travel to Elizabethtown as seed 3. Who said title contenders?? Was their schedule tough...undoubtably no. But the same schedule from a team that went to the Regional Final a year ago.

The key being that the trip to the regional final last year didn't include games across the region. They beat Western Hills (1-9) and North Oldham (7-3) (rather than, say, Louisville Central and Elizabethtown) to get to that regional final where they were promptly ushered out by Paducah Tilghman.

I'm not saying they are a bad team, I'm just saying that a few weeks ago they were 5-0 with the #1 defense in the state. I questioned that perhaps those stats were gained against weaker competition and shouldn't be used to determine the overall ability of this team. People wore me out. Now that their schedule has picked up somewhat, they have proven themselves to be pretenders to the 3A Top 10.

At the start of the season this was a legit ball club (by no stretch a preseason state contender...however if healthy would have been fun to really watch), no doubt they have not lived up to their own expecations I am sure. They have been without their all-state LB (a junior), all-district NT(a junior), and lost their MLB several weeks ago (their local newspaper outlines the rash of injuries, several not mentioned above). All excuses aside, this is a different ball club without those young men in the middle of the D as well as providing some depth at O. However, its easy to kick a team in hinsight(sp?).

Quickly ushered out...hardly, last years regional game was a 10 point ball game heading into the 4th quarter...that's when the track meet broke out! At any rate, good luck to all teams heading into the playoffs, even the pretenders.;)

Give yourself a raise.

Back off Henry Co. All four district teams are solid this year. If you go to Cal Preps you will see this is the #1 rated district in the state in 3A. I understand that some people are bashing them because some of their Bluegrass posters were a little boastful. They are a very solid team and all 4 teams in the district should rank in the top 15 in the state.

On a message board? Come on.

But there are people who will listen to what they want to in order to make the conclusion the want to make.

But I see you point.
