Why Does Bell want to play Corbin SOOO Bad?

Featured Replies

Just curious.

Bell Co fans hijack about every Corbin thread on here.

I just can't understand why it is so important for a large 4A (almost 5A) school to play a mid-size 2A school.

Bell should have dominated Corbin every year they played for the past 20....but didn't.

Some of you guys should accept the fact that you don't get to play Corbin for a few years, or some should seek psychiatric help. JMO.

CAL Preps says Bell would beat Corbin 31-7 this season, congrats to the Bobcats. I hope that helps some of you guys. I think the game would probably be a bit closer but Bell would still win...........and should.

SOOOOOO........., tell me, what would that win mean to the "BOBCAT NATION" and the team?

Let's keep this constructive and leave out the private information and name calling.

Also, all discussion of this topic should be in this thread and NOT in Corbin, Bell or Middlesboro threads that deal with other games, etc.

Thanks all.

I think a lot of it comes from some of the old timers in Bell Co. that took beatings from the Pups in 70's and back. I dont' think the kids really care that much b/c they know they can beat Corbin they do it every year as 8th graders so they have nothing to prove. But still yet they are two of the better programs in Ky 40 miles apart. Only common sense would say they should play but I understand Coach Jewell has his reasons.

I, as a Corbin fan, could care less if we ever play Bell again. I would also like to encourage the Corbin football staff and the administration to stick to their guns and refuse to play them. There is way too much boasting and inflated egos that would get in the way if this game was played. It is a shame when grown men can't grow up.

We are proud of our team and the guts and character of our coaching staff. Coaches who are men do what is right even if it goes against popular opinion and they also know how to conduct themselves when they win.

Just curious.

To be the best you have to beat the best! Corbin for many, many years has been one of the best programs in the entire state, today included. Bell Co. has just got to this level in the last 20 years or so. I agree some of the old timers recall the beat downs the Redhounds put on them and now are proud of their team. To the players at Bell today all they know is a successful football program. I enjoyed watching these games but things change and time moves on. Both schools IMO are proud of the successful football programs they each have, and many other programs strive to get to this level.

As an outsider, I think Corbin and Bell Co. would be a good game just about every year. Good gate for the Home team and a great atmosphere. As for the other things mentioned, I have no idea, not being from there.

 I don't sit around and think about Corbin playing Bell or anything like that I just like to get a little more build up about it in threads hoping that they may play. Its not really a big deal. I'll leave it alone in game threads.

I see it the other way around. There is no standup or moral reason not to play the game. I believe egos are getting in the way of the game taking place. But it apparanly isn't going to happen.

I see it the way Slink does. Its too very good teams that aren't far apart and both teams are going to bring really big crowds adding a big gate and a lot of money to the schools, programs, etc. I am sure Bell would bring one of Corbin's biggest crowds of the year and vice versa.

I too would love to see this game added back to the schedule. It's probably the best rivalry in Eastern Kentucky between the two biggest traditional powerhouses along with Belfry, Hazard, Pikeville, Breathitt, Pburg, and Middlesboro. The game is tagged "King of The Mountains" for a reason. It's not a team A is afraid to play team B type of deal. I don't necessarily think it's an Ego deal but can see how it is interpreted. I don't want to say for certain because I'm not 100% positive but I believe from all accounts, that it was can celled due to bad blood between Dudley Hilton and Steve Jewell. If that is the case, I do not think personal feelings should end such a great rivalry. Corbin has dominated the overall series but over the past 15-20 years once Bell became relevant, it has became a toss up each year. Every so often Corbin or Bell will blow the other out but generally it's a great game.

The game should be played because it is a game that both teams get up for. The fans get up for it as do the entire community. However, sometimes things don't go as we want.

You know that when you watch the game your in for a hard hitting smash mouth football. Everybody knows that they both hate each other and thats what makes it such a good game.

I think some on the other side might need the help. Corbin has a lot of pride, and I know it hurts them to have people think they are dodging Bell. That's why they are always trying to justify not playing.

We could talk about the 2A-4A difference all day, but that isn't a factor in any other sport. Corbin makes up for Bell's numbers with its socio-economic advantages and the fact that it doesn't have to pull players from all over a mountain county to field a team.

Harlan County teams haven't played Bell for a number of years either, and more than anything else it was because they couldn't play with them anymore. No one complained about Bell's size when they were beating them regularly in the 60s and 70s and most of the 80s.

If playing each other would not benefit Bell and Corbin both then I would not play.

The fact that Bell is 4A and Corbin is 2A should not even be a factor. Both of these schools have great tradition in the last 15-20 years and should be playing. Playing tougher competion makes you better and prepares your team for the playoffs. I know there is bad blood between the two schools (prior to the punching the ref incident) but that is part of a great rivalry. Shoot, there is even a sleeper cell in the Bell camp,LOL.

From an outsiders view it is clear that Corbin ended the series and refuses to renew. From a fans standpoint if they played this friday it would be the game I would drive to Corbin or Log Mountain to watch.

Why cheat themselves and the fans by not playing? ONLY Steve Jewell and Dudly Hilton can answer that truefully and honestly. Fans on BGP can only talk about their opinions and why they think they are not playing.

The enrollment numbers are not that far apart anyway. Bell Co. has 840 and Corbin 706 students according to the 06-07 numbers.

I would like to see them play, but I can't see it happening as long as Dudley Hilton and Tommy Greer are involved at Bell Co. and Steve Jewell is at Corbin. I believe Whitley Co. should get the first shot at any opening on Corbin's schedule.
