Roy Williams to Dallas

Featured Replies

The 'Boys gave up their '09 first, third and sixth rounders for Roy Williams and the Lions '09 seventh round pick.

Who made the better deal or was it good for both teams?

Just heard it on NFL Radio...don't have a link.

I think the Lions got the better end. Their not going to win right now. And I don't think Dallas' big issue was their WR core. Owens, Crayton, Witten, etc.

Did TO approve this trade? and who's throwing to him? Perhaps they had address their backup to their backup Qb situation.

Not sure how I feel about this one.

Intersting to see how TO is going to react. I mean he's already complaining about lack of touches. I guess they are going to need 2 QB's and 2 footballs to throw on the field.

My initital impression is that it was a good deal for both teams. The Lions need to get a program in place and build for the future and draft picks are the way to do that. Dallas, on the other hand, has a window open right now to compete for a Super Bowl. I can't fault a team for making a move that could help with that.

On paper, Dallas may not have "needed" another WR, but I think it was certainly an area that could have used an upgrade.

Here's the way I see it...obviously, it makes sense for Detroit to trade Williams for multiple picks. So, I'll look at it from the Big D perspective. Dallas landed a young WR who has the physical tools to be among the elite. So, this trade doesn't just help them now. Assuming they lock Williams up long-term, they've insured that their franchise QB (Romo) is going to have weapons across the board for the long haul (Williams, Witten, Barber and Felix Jones...all those guys are young and will probably be kept in Dallas). Also, the price as acceptable...most likely their pick is going to be in the mid to late 20's, so they're giving up a late first rounder. They acquired Cleveland's '09 third round pick, so they'll still have one. And, considering where the teams will be drafting, the 6th and 7th picks are basically a wash.

Detroit is more than happy to part ways with Williams. He had become a nuisance to the team.

The plot thickens in Dallas...

There are a lot of BIG EGO'S in Dallas. That new face of Jerry Jones is gonna have a bunch of new wrinkles after this year.

If the Qb can get them the ball this makes Dallas even harder to cover.

I like. He's a good player. Less double coverages for T.O.

...or for Roy Williams. Either way, you have a very physically gifted WR with single coverage.

Jason Witten is likely going to be single covered for good. And, if teams focus too much on those guys, Barber and Jones will kill them.

On paper, it looks great. Unfortunately, paper doesn't always translate to the field...and, they won't have a QB who can fully utilize all that talent until Romo gets back.

On top of that, how long will it take Romo to shake off the rust and get on the same page with Williams? The season will be heading for the stretch run, so there won't be a lot of time to do that. And, depending on how things play out while Romo is out, the Cowboys could be fighting just to make the playoffs in the NFC East.

I like the trade, but it's going to be interesting. Romo's pinkie has made sure of that. :D

I just hope Johnson can handle the situation and play good enough to carry the Boys to victory.

Good deal for both teams IMO. The Lions are going no where and have a chance to build on next year and the Cowboys get an incredible talent that will take some pressure off TO.

I wonder why the Bengals don't try to do something like this with TJ or Chad or Utecht and stockpile some draft picks since they have so many needs.

O, waitaminute, I know, cause Marvin has horrible drafts.
