October 14, 200818 yr If this election has shown us anything, it’s that the Republican Party has filed bankruptcy on ideas. Propaganda has not only encroached on the reasonable economic policies of the Republicans, but it now dominates it entirely. Nowhere is this clearer than in Sarah Palin. Her ignorance isn’t rejected; it is lauded as a positive attribute. She’s praised for it. She’s one of us! Detractors are swept into the pejorative classification of liberals, as if intellect and ideas are inherently liberal. Her foundation is an ability to deliver sharp rhetoric backed with only minimal substance, if it is substance at all. Don’t believe me? Just ask her. Or, you can’t, because she doesn’t accept questions. Questions are liberal, I’ve forgotten. Palin epitomizes the state of the Republican Party – no ideas, just blame. An economic crisis should be a boon for Republicans since they often advocate policies that lead to sharper growth. Unfortunately, this crisis wasn’t the result of a muddled, over-regulated economy begging to be cut loose; it was overseen by a Republican doing what he could to pander to the wealthy. If I’m wrong then point me to the reasonable Republican solutions to the financial situation. They jumped aboard the bailout package, devised and pushed by Republicans, no less. What you can point to is a lot of blame, propaganda disseminated to finger Democrats, liberals, communists, whatever. I originally supported John McCain and it wasn’t because he had any great, miraculous ideas. He doesn’t. But, he’s shown himself to be a pragmatist, something I found our country to be in desperate need of in an all out war of blind partisan allegiance. With his selection of Sarah Palin, the resolutely unqualified, opaque, divisive rhetoric reciter as his Lieutenant and his subsequent joining of the “blame the liberals because we sure as hell don’t know what to do” chorus of propagandists he’s lost his luster. The Republican Party must undergo a renaissance to reasonable economics and a new found limit on its social conservatism that rings increasingly hollow. It is going to have to bring more than an opposition to gay marriage to the table to have staying power and it’s going to have to quit alienating everyone that hints at dissent. This use to be found only on the fringe of the Party’s extreme, but now it’s mainstream. In short, the Republican Party is in desperate need of an enema, and it might be an Obama Presidency that delivers it.
October 14, 200818 yr Most of Palin's speeches sound as if they were written by right-wing bloggers ...
October 14, 200818 yr Welcome to the Socialist Republican Party. At least the Democrats are honest about wanting to run your life.
October 14, 200818 yr Hat-tip to David Brooks since I echo his argument on ideas. Interesting read. And I know now why I'm a liberal. I'm a coastal pointy-head!

It's a good thing that the democrats didn't push the bailout package or have anything to do with it. It is a good thing the democrats didn't have any hand in the mess or get in bed with lunatics like ACORN. It is a good thing that the democrats have nominated someone who can save us all like Obama who has so many accomplishments to praise him for. In short, ... it isn't the republicans who need the enema, ... it is all of Washington. I don't know how else to say this but that more spending (which Bush and the current congress seem really good at) is NOT the solution.
October 14, 200818 yr I don't know how else to say this but that more spending (which Bush and the current congress seem really good at) is NOT the solution. As were the three Republican-controlled Congresses under Bush's watch.

In short, the Republican Party is in desperate need of an enema, and it might be an Obama Presidency that delivers it. I tried to read your post but lost interest at the bolded part. Obama has done nothing but spout "Change, Hope, Yes We Can, insert feel good bumber sticker slogan here______________". He has continued to try and convince the voters that McCain is a 3rd Bush term. He has offered ZERO, and I mean ZERO substance to his campaign. He gives a good speech period. He has flip flopped more then any politian in recent memory. You have to figure out which way the wind is blowing to know what his stance is this week. Democrats have screwed this country up right along side Republicans. I have grown so tired of the finger pointing and the "My party's better then yours" crap. If both sides open their eyes they would see how screwed up both parties are.
October 14, 200818 yr In short, ... it isn't the republicans who need the enema, ... it is all of Washington. I don't know how else to say this but that more spending (which Bush and the current congress seem really good at) is NOT the solution. Which is why I'm voting against all incumbents of all DC, state and local offices. My one exception is Geoff Davis because he had the cahones to vote against the Bush Socialist bank takeover.
October 14, 200818 yr Palin? She is the VP candidate...lets talk about Obama. Habib, please explain to me how you think Obama is qualified to be President.

October 14, 200818 yr Well, the tone of each of the responses of these thread (save HHSDad and mcpapa) are proof of what Habib is saying: At least the democrats haven't played the blame game have they? She is the VP candidate...lets talk about Obama. Habib, please explain to me how you think Obama is qualified to be President. All of you feel the need to mention Obama or point fingers. Guys, Habib isn't railing against conservatives. He is railing against the Republican party. Anyone who feels more allegiance to a party then to a philosophy should be ashamed of themself.
October 14, 200818 yr If this election has shown us anything, it’s that the Republican Party has filed bankruptcy on ideas. Agreed. I think you are kind of pushing it. I get what you are saying, but I don't think that R's have demonized intelligence. But I will say, in terms of being qualified for the office, she probably doesn't cut it. FWIW, I don't think that Obama is either- but that is not a justification. If you are pointing to tax cuts, then I want you to show me how the tax cuts caused this crisis. I don't think that is what you mean, so I will wait for you to explain this part further. If I’m wrong then point me to the reasonable Republican solutions to the financial situation. They jumped aboard the bailout package, devised and pushed by Republicans, no less. Agreed here for sure. The Republican Party must undergo a renaissance to reasonable economics and a new found limit on its social conservatism that rings increasingly hollow. It is going to have to bring more than an opposition to gay marriage to the table to have staying power and it’s going to have to quit alienating everyone that hints at dissent. In short, the Republican Party is in desperate need of an enema, and it might be an Obama Presidency that delivers it. I agree that, while social conservatism needs to play in a role, the backbone should be economics, absolutely. But they certainly do need an enema.
