Yes, but I consider several of my coworkers, including my immediate supervisor and his brother, the owner, to be friends of mine. I have engaged in many after hours political debates with the both of them and I would say that they are as liberal as nearly anybody who posts here.

Every four years liberals portray the Democratic candidate as an intellectual (even John Kerry!) and every four years they portray the Republican opponent as stupid or old. The attacks on Palin's intellect and McCain's age (had he been younger it would have been an attack on his intellect) were as predictable as winter following fall.

Interesting post, considering it was you that (more than once) brought up McCain's low standing in his class at Annapolis during the primaries.

I brought it up during the primaries because I expected whoever the Democratic candidate would be to use McCain's class standing in the general campaign. Instead, Obama decided to make veiled references to McCain's age. Instead, Obama's supporters have been busy portraying Palin as an idiot.

What would the race be like if the ticket read:

 

McCain/Biden vs. O'Bama/Palin

 

McCain/Biden in a landslide

How about this....I'll give Obama credit for his education, as soon as you guys start giving President Bush credit for his Ivy League education....

 

 

When President Bush (as Texas governor) ran his 2000 campaign, I gave due weight to his education (his Yale undergrad degree and his Harvard MBA) and considered his business education a strength. As a graduate of a respected MBA program (University of Michigan), I have wondered why he hasn't applied the excellent business education he received more effectively over these last eight years.

This pattern has held since at least the 1980 campaign. Liberals still have a very difficult time giving Ronald Reagan his due.

 

 

The stupid or old impressions wouldn't have stuck if there wasn't a grain of truth there in American public perceptions. Let's look at Presidential election candidates over these last 4 elections. in 1996, Bob Dole was old (especially compared to Bill Clinton). Little point disputing that (although you may try). In 2000 and in 2004, George W. Bush (with his acute inarticulateness) certainly didn't give the impression of being an intellectual in either his campaign speeches or his debate performances vis a vis his opponents (in fact, my recollection is that polls indicated Gore and Kerry bested Bush in their debates with him). Now, it is 2008, and guess what? McCain is old! He would be the oldest President ever to be inaugurated. Your use of the word 'portray' implies a suggestive interpretation of the facts. By the actual numbers (the facts themselves, if you will), McCain is old. As for Sarah Palin, with her fumbling answers to simple, straightforward questions about her qualifications, she left little doubt that she is a mental lightweight tapdancing perilously close to the most powerful office on the planet.

As for Sarah Palin, this chick couldn't answer a simple question asking her what newspapers she reads. That leaves one of two possibilities: 1) she literally doesn't read any major newspapers (in which case she has absolutely no business being the U.S. VP) -or- 2) she does read newspapers but was so flummoxed by this simple question that she couldn't articulate an answer (which certainly does not "portray" her as having much going on upstairs).

I was going to ask you the same question about level of education. What do you consider educated? What do you believe is the educational background or pedigree that should be present with the Commander in Chief?
