Certainly, we have had respected Presidents without substantial formal education. Harry Truman comes to mind (high school graduate who studied law for 2 years but did not graduate). Bear in mind that he also had distinguished military service in World War I and served in the U.S. Senate for 10 years prior to becoming Roosevelt's VP in 1945. I consider an appropriate combination of 1) service in major public office or the military 2) accomplished experience in the private sector and 3) education. I look for no minimum education (provided the candidate has appropriate experience in the areas of public service and/or the private sector), although I don't ridicule or discount formidable educational accomplishment as some populist conservatives do.

Well, George W. Bush was a "C" student at Yale. And it's a given that due to family connections, he stood a better chance of being admitted than you or I did.

They're not exactly academic overachievers, are they? Last election, I remember some stupid rock and roll musician saying, "I don't necessarily expect my president to be genius. But I do expect them to be smarter than I am." I have to agree.

As for Sarah Palin, this chick couldn't answer a simple question asking her what newspapers she reads. That leaves one of two possibilities: 1) she literally doesn't read any major newspapers (in which case she has absolutely no business being the U.S. VP) -or- 2) she does read newspapers but was so flummoxed by this simple question that she couldn't articulate an answer (which certainly does not "portray" her as having much going on upstairs).

The woman had a 75 percent approval rating among Alaskan Democrats in the last poll taken. Palin held her own in her debate against Joe Biden despite Biden's 35 years of Senate experience and despite having only a month to prepare for her first national debate.

 

Regardless of what happens on Nov. 4, Sarah Palin has a very bright future in national politics despite the ridiculous attempts by people like you to paint her as an imbecile.

It is amazing how the hatred of Sarah Palin clouds so many liberals' judgment. Palin is conservative and she is a very effective communicator. Democratic strategists know better and that is why the Daily Kos, Huffington Post, and other slimey leftist web sites expended so much effort spreading lies about her after the convention. They recognized her potential appeal to women and independents.

 

You are right about one thing. Palin is a conservative. Freed from McCain's agenda and running on her own policies she will be a very formidable candidate in 2012.
