September 27, 200818 yr MrRk went to the Humane Society, a few weeks ago to look at dogs, even though we knew that he wasn't going to bring one home. He came across the sweetest little girl you've ever seen. We discussed getting her but we knew that our lives were so rushed at this time and my life is full of too much stress to consider bringing home a new dog. We decided that we were not going to get her yesterday morning and I cried all the way to work. Well yesterday was truly a stressful day for me and MrRk decided that I needed something in my life other than sadness. So yesterday we got together after work and we adopted the young lady that you see as my avatar. Her name was Sugar but I decided that she looked like a Dixie.....so please meet our sweet little Dixie.:banana:
September 27, 200818 yr That is so cool!!! And the timing couldn't be more perfect for you. I knew you would be a "dog person." :thumb:

I'm not hounding you but I just find the humor in statements like these. I have done this a few times myself. We go to PetSmart (which houses some animals from the Lex. Humane Society) and we always say, "let's go look at the dogs, but we won't get one." Of course, your heartstrings eventually tug and you give in and get one. If you really weren't/didn't want to get one, I don't think you would go in the first place. That's how we got our (now) 15 year-old Pug, Seamus. We said, "well let's go take a look around." We saw him and felt so sorry for him because the lady at Lex. Humane said everyone was excited and interested in adopting him until they found out how old he was (he was 14 at the time). We actually sat back and watched this for about 20 minutes. People would go, "aww a pug" and go in and look at him, but when they saw his age listed on the clipboard, they would usually make a face and then walk away to look at the other dogs. I really wanted to adopt him, but my girlfriend said no. About 2 hours later, we found ourselves back at PetSmart adopting him. We came to the conclusion that if nobody else wanted him, we were going to adopt him and give him the best final years of his life (pugs only have a life expectancy of 12-15 years). But congrats on your new addition and kudos for adopting.:thumb:
September 28, 200818 yr Author That is so cool!!! And the timing couldn't be more perfect for you. I knew you would be a "dog person." :thumb: I told MrRk that I didn't want a dog right now. I have too much to try to deal with right now to worry about having a dog around also. What would we do with him when we get a call that Mom has gone? What would we do with her when we were both at work? All kinds of reasons not to adopt her but what finally won out was - what would happen to her if we didn't take her. No one had shown any interest in her. She's an older dog and some people don't want an older dog. So we finally came to the conclusion that we needed her just as much as she needed us. We've only had her for 24 hours and it feels as if we have had her her entire life. She's so sweet and we haven't heard her bark one time. She just wants to be loved and guess what.....we just want to love her!!!!! Edited September 28, 200818 yr by RebelK
September 28, 200818 yr I'm happy for you, too, RebelK. Animals can bring such joy to our lives! Makes me miss my old basset hound.
September 28, 200818 yr Thank you for adopting from a shelter! Dog's are so sweet (as are cats). I think Dixie has found a great home.

I am sitting here with my 2 babies, Golden Retriever-Roxie, and my Pug-Brandy, they are the best of friends and my 2 other daughters. Unconditional love is wonderful!:thumb:
