Highlands 2009 schedule

Featured Replies

Don't understand the hopla of Highlands playing Beechwood, they are a 1A school! They have a great program but that is quite a reach for Highlands to play them. I mean they are pretty much the same as NCC, and I can't imagine Highlands and NCC playing.

Withrow, Ryle, Beechwood,Boone, Colerain and Ryle again the last game for non-district games.

Is this for sure? The Withrow game should be interesting.

I for one am surprised at the addition of Beechwood.

I think it's more about the "marquis match-up" aspect of it. It's kind of like the Yankees and Dodgers playing. It may or may not be a good game; but it's a heck of a draw.

Agreed. I think this benefits BW more than HHS. Give BW credit for stepping it up and preparing themselves for the tough postseason. Sorta like HHS playing Colerain and Elder. Highlands benefits more in those matchups. People may ask the same thing in Cinti. But hey, games are hard to find for the Birds.

I would like to see a Newport Central Catholic match-up, and who would'nt like to see a Highlands-vs-Trinity contest?

CCHS should get back on Highlands' schedule. They have turned the corner and I think it would be a decent game. They would atleast give the Birds a better game than Dixie, Holmes and CovCath have this year. They have a pretty darn good frosh team and their middle school team aint too shabby either.

The Camels have had great freshman teams in the past, but they never seem to take that success to the next level. They seem to have a tough time keeping the talent on the team. I'd like to see the series resumed, but in all honesty I don't expect the results to be much different from the past. (And trust me, I'd LOVE to see the Camels become the force that I've always hoped they would.)

Hey, I just read a recent Cincy Enquirer online prep sports chat transcript, and in it they mentioned that Coach Mueller confirmed that Colerain is NOT on the 2009 HHS schedule.

I saw that as well and that's a real shame. I was really looking forward to making a return trip to Ft. Wright next season.

So the question is this. Is the game just not schedule yet or is it completely out of the question. I find it very hard to believe that Colerain's non-conference schedule is already filled so I am sure WE have an opening.

I really feel like we owe Highlands a better game than we gave them this year. I mean, we need our dozen or so starting sophomores and juniors to get one year older, one year bigger and one year faster in order to give Dale Mueller the type of challenge he's looking for.

Hope we can work it out next year Birds fans!!

It's going to work out fine for you. You'd have been over in Ft. Wright looking lost while we were having a great time in Ft. Thomas.:irked:;)

So I guess you are all done with the sandbagging from earlier in the season.

Colerain needs to work on it's local geography. :D:D

They must be focusing too much on athletics.

I do not know where you get this information from but since Coach Styer has taken over the program the numbers have stayed consistent and even increased on the varsity level. Where CCHS had problems retaining kids was from the short John Schlarman era.

I know Highlands plays a lot of teams from Ohio mostly in the Cincy area. I have put a little thought into this and here are some match ups I would drive to see featuring Highlands and some Ohio Teams.

Highlands vs Steubenville

Highlands vs Licking Valley

Highlands vs Youngstown Cardinal Mooney

Highlands vs Pickerington Central

Highlands vs Cleveland St Ignatius

Highlands vs Cleveland Glenville

Any of those games would be great. Reno at Steubenville is having some real problems setting up non-league games. Had the opportunity to speak with him about two months ago about a Highlands match-up and he was all for it, but they need home games non-league. For those who don't know about The Big Red, their stadium is probably one of the greatest in Ohio. Not the same size as others, but just about perfect for a high school game.

Coach Ginn is in the same boat, they have problems scheduling games and would truly consider offers. They are much more apt to travel based on the business deal in scheduling the games.

Two games not mentioned, Canton McKinley or Massillon Washington. That would pit two of the top 8 all time winningest football programs. Neither program is in it's best shape, but boy the history both schools bring is hard to beat.
