Highlands 2009 schedule

It's going to work out fine for you. You'd have been over in Ft. Wright looking lost while we were having a great time in Ft. Thomas.:irked:;)

Sorry. Remember, I'm an Ohio guy. The fact that I can keep any of the 800 cities/towns in NKY straight is a miracle. Too many Forts over there in KY. You'd think you were still fighting a war or something. :fight:

That's hysterical! Where I grew up you had to drive for a half hour to get out of the county. Now I pass through three counties on my way to work!

Any of those games would be great. Reno at Steubenville is having some real problems setting up non-league games. Had the opportunity to speak with him about two months ago about a Highlands match-up and he was all for it, but they need home games non-league. For those who don't know about The Big Red, their stadium is probably one of the greatest in Ohio. Not the same size as others, but just about perfect for a high school game.

Coach Ginn is in the same boat, they have problems scheduling games and would truly consider offers. They are much more apt to travel based on the business deal in scheduling the games.

Two games not mentioned, Canton McKinley or Massillon Washington. That would pit two of the top 8 all time winningest football programs. Neither program is in it's best shape, but boy the history both schools bring is hard to beat.

Both McKinley and Mass Wash are in a downward trend which in my eyes would not make the games all that eye catching except for the names.

JB, here is the official, confirmed Highlands schedule for next year:

Manual-away

Ryle-away

Beechwood-away

Withrow-may be part of some bowl, but if the bowl does not happen,

we'll play at Withrow

Boone Co.-home

Holmes-home

Dixie-home

CovCath-away

Scott-home

Ryle-home

From what I'm told transportation costs have affected scheduling decisions and the Birds have had to focus on playing the best local schools willing to play us. Glad to see Boone Co. coming back on the schedule. Also glad to see Manual on the schedule.

Admittedly this appears to be a weaker schedule than what we are used to playing. With the talent Dale has coming back, I'm sure he wishes he could have put some stronger teams on the schedule. Doesn't look like the Herbie is going to happen either. Again, from what I've been told, the Herbie folks wouldn't commit to us and Dale felt, with the difficulty he was having finding opponents and with the need to cut transportation costs, he had to commit to some of the local schools when they expressed a willingness to play us, and couldn't afford to hold out and see what the Herbie was going to do (and run the risk of losing the local schools). So it is what it is.

I don't see a game where the Birds will be underdogs. Seems like they usually have one game where they are the u-dog. Interesting that they would play Ryle twice. I can't remember that happening recently where two teams play twice. They might be pretty good games next year, however.

I do not know where you get this information from but since Coach Styer has taken over the program the numbers have stayed consistent and even increased on the varsity level. Where CCHS had problems retaining kids was from the short John Schlarman era.

They've had problems keeping kids since the Bob Miller era. This isn't a new development.

Wow... if this holds it's a NICE schedule! I really like the game against Manual, plus the Cincy Withrow game and Boone County being back on the schedule. Of course, the Beechwood game will generate a lot of NKY interest. The only negative I can see is that I'm not a big fan of HHS playing the same team (Ryle) twice in a season.

Thats a lot of away games to start the season. So the first home game is late September?

Why are they playing Wiffrow? Is it because Dale used to coach there?

Playing Ryle twice is dumb. Bring on Colerain and their studs.

Both could be fun games to watch.

I do not blame any school for scheduling closer to home with the price of gas.

Manual is way down from last season, despite lofty Litkenhous rating. I've seen them lose to St. X and have Central's punt team gift wrap a win this season. They'll be down a little more next year. They are to get new light bulbs which should make Manual Stadium a bit more "enlightened".

How about East Central,In. They have great football tradition and usually field an above average team. Close to home too!
