I would say they are mediocre competition as well.

OU has, by far, the best offense in the country. The only team they wouldn't hang 40+ on is USC...

Yeah that would be awful for a team to go undefeated in a conference that currently has 5 top 10 teams (which with playing each other will thin out some) to not go the national championship game. That would be a huge mistake.

Are you saying that since USC shut out Auburn in 2003. That means in 2004 USC definitely would have won again? Just face it our system sucks. We had an undefeated SEC team, yet they didn't even get a chance to play for the title. Your suppose to win all your games and that is what they did, but yet they didn't have a chance to be crowned the best.

 

I would prefer a playoff system. However, all those teams were undefeated, and USC won the title game 55-14. I thought your post implied that USC shouldn't have been in there.

How do you judge who is the best team? Did anyone think that Florida was on a whole other level than Ohio St. 2 years ago? I don't know if many people thought that LSU would blow out Ohio St. last year. If a team goes undefeated and beats say Georgia or Florida, other SEC west schools and the best from the SEC west in the SEC title game then they deserve to be in the nat'l title game. Thats not to say that Oklahoma and USC don't deserve to be in it, but as of now it appears Oklahoma will have the weakest schedule when its all said and done IMO.

 

Besides I don't think Id be bragging too much about beating a team that is 0-3 with 2 blowout losses. And Cinncinatti has had a down grade at QB.

As long as Missouri holds serve, Oklahoma would have to beat 3 teams currently in the Top 10 to get to the title game along with Top 20 Kansas. Not sure where you get Oklahoma having anything close to a weak schedule...

That will be a really big accomplishment b/c they don't play in the regular season.

I said they will probably have the weakest of the 3. Ohio St. will rebound with the weak Big 10 and be ranked high so that will look good on their part, although I believe the Pac 10 is a little down this year.

That was in 2004. In 2003, USC had shut out Auburn at Auburn with virtually the same players. Come on . . .

 

Come on...same players or not, Auburn was a far better team at the end of 2004 than they were at the start of 2003. That argument is completely irrelevant.

 

The Cowboys beat the Giants twice last season before losing at home in the playoffs...that was in the same season.

 

As for the thread, the SEC will get left out because the conference is tougher on a weekly basis and if someone does go undefeated, they won't be able to rack up the style points that Oklahoma will by beating up on a weaker conference.

 

No way USC gets left out if they go undefeated, nor should they. If we don't get the SEC's best vs. USC then the outcome of the title game is a virtual lock and fans of college football will be cheated yet again of the best matchup. At least history would tell us that...

 

2003 - LSU thoroughly dominated Oklahoma in a game that wasn't as close as the 21-14 final score indicated.

 

2004 - USC massacres Oklahoma 55-19, while an undefeated Auburn team gets left out.

 

2005 - Exception...Vince Young wills his team to victory over USC. There are no Vince Young's in the Big 12 this year.

 

2006 & 2007 - The SEC completely dominates Ohio State, while better Trojan teams dominate the Rose Bowl.

Please explain to me really how you determine who is better between the 3 undefeated teams. I don't think any of them would have common opponents. They eye test don't work. I don't know of many people at all who gave Ohio St a chance against Miami in what 2001, or Texas much of a chance vs. USC in the championship, or Florida much of a chance vs. Ohio St. a couple years ago.
