The notice that I published came to me in the form of a press release. My assumption is that Mel's assignment in the grand scheme of things was to prepare and distribute the press release.

 

It clearly states in the context that Campbell County will serve as the host school and be in charge of the tournament finances.

 

Anthony Strong has spearheaded the effort since its inception and nobody has tried to "steal his thunder." Since then I do believe that it has been a joint effort among all of the athletic directors of the 37th District.

 

When the information crossed my desk, I published it verbatim to BGP, knowing that there are many out there very interested in 10th Region basketball and particularly the site of this year's 10th Region Tournament - nothing more, nothing less!

 

I did understand that the superintendent was spearheading the effort. I was not aware that the others were involved. That is good to know.

Now back to the 10th Region Tournament, let's hope things are officially worked out and an announcement will be made soon. I really miss going to the regional tournaments back home and feeling the electricity in the air once you get to the parking lot and eventually into the gym. To me, there is nothing better than seeing these young athletes playing for their family, their school, their team, their community, and the county with EVERYTHING that they have. Things like these tournaments are the main reason why I love high school athletics...the name on the front of the jersey means more than the name on the back of the jersey.

My question once again is this: How do their family, school, and community afford the prices to watch them play? I am just talking about one game too. What would happen if they won and these families had to go back another night?

It would have been a more professional to acknowledge those who actually got it done! Not one mention of the superitendent but someone who had nothing to do with it puts his own name in this "press release" several times. Glad the coattails are long enough to ride on!:lol:

Interesting developments, which should be very exciting for high school basketball fans in NKY and both regions!! Regarding those who are so interested in who gets the credit for making it happen, unless I'm wrong, don't all five AD's in the district vote on the venue?:confused:

I understand the prices for some things will be more than what might be experienced at a high school. Before two games in the quarter finals would cost you $10 per person, because you had one game per session and then had to clear the gym. At least now you can stay and watch 4 games if you like for $2 per game if you don't leave. But who is to say that you would still get food as cheap as in the past with all the increases in fuel. As for the drive i think turn about is fair play when it come to travel within the region.

I think the AD were correct in trying to put together something that was a sure thing for the region. To my knowledge this will be the first time they know what they will get before getting there.

I've worked plenty of concessions stands and hospitality rooms - I agree if the general population (parents and fans) has to pay for admission and food - everyone should.

A lot of schools take advantage of hospitality rooms . I've seen entire teams and their cheerleaders and all their school officials be fed there. I think it's a good idea to do away with them. I also think passes should be limited to ball players , cheerleaders and coaches only. I also think so called coaches cards or passes should be eliminated for all season and tournament games. If they can't pay , let them stay at home. Just my opinion.

I have no problem with this. I have many years in the past, prepared all the food for the hospitality room, it is alot of work and can be expensive. Some have gone to cooperate or restaurant sponsors. Either way I am sure there will be some that will not be happy with this move.

Great deal when you date an adminastrators son! Passes only for players, coaches and managers, and cheeleaders, superintendant and principals and AD's only. Everyone else can pay, IMHO.
