Yea, I read that article as well so I'm not sure where Slink got his figures from.

 

IMHO I don't think Hines should have stated PC wouldn't be returning to the CB, cause in todays paper Bowers stated he didn't even know about it all.

 

This bowl is great for the community and helps all three schools, so I don't see what the problem is with it all. I am a maroon fan myself, but I like to see all our local schools do great during the season, so the more profit they all get the better it helps ALL the boys..

 

I estimated the total crowd this year for both games. Maybe, there was only 6000-6500 people there.

I know Joe answered some of this but since you were responding to my post I will respond to yours.

 

1st there were NOT 8000 people at the game, more like 3000

2nd All three schools have received between $7,000 and $8,000 each year for the last several years NOT $2,000

3rd The RCB paid $4,000 to the visiting not local team, NOT $2,000.

 

If Pulaski and Southwestern were only getting $2,000 ea. they would have left years ago to play in another bowl with better pay off.

 

This is a free pay day for the county schools; all they have to do is drive across town (saving gas), play a game (normally against smaller schools; Rock, Danville, Russel County, Somerset to name a few) and collect a big check ($7,000-$8,000).

 

Did you count the people? Somerset's field used to hold 7000. They have taken out about 200 seats. The capacity is 6800. Sure looked like more than 3000 to me. I do know for a fact PC only received $2000 last year. As I previously stated, I do not know about the other schools.

Was that what Puaski's football program received or what was given to Pulaski's Athletic Department. With all the fuss that was raised by Coach Hines after the 2007 game it looks like he would have pointed out the Mr. Tucker's statements about the revenue distributed to each of the local schools were false if they only received $2000. Yet it was printed in the above linked article and never disputed by anyone at Pulaski.

I have been a Warrior fan for years now, but I'm a fan of football. The Ray Correll Bowl is such a great event I flew 800 miles and watched a college game then drove 4 hours the next day to catch up with friends at this event. It has to be played at Somerset because it's their bowl game. I couldn't image the Bob Allen Bowl being played any where but at Danville's field. I know this argument has been brought up several times about where and when it's played. If you don't want to play in the Ray Correll Bowl then don't sign on the dotted line. Have your on and invite who you want.

 

Now with that said it would be great if all three local teams played each other every year. With all the split of the RCB you can't expect Somerset to play without some money back. Just wouldn't be right. So here's a solution either all three teams agree to play one another on a rotating basis (home/away) and the county schools drop out of the RCB. Or they make a money/money deal with Somerset and play in the RCB. The team not playing Somerset in the RCB get a certian amount and the other get a certian amount. Sign 2 year deals and stop all this nonsense!!

The Ray Correll Bowl should be rotated between all three local schools. Thats a easy quick solution. If Somerset doesn't want this then both county schools should move on.

That's like putting Bill Belechicks name on the Super Bowl Trophy after he wins it because it rotates. This is absurd, it is Somerset's Bowl. No one elses. It benefits all three local schools what else needs to be said. It is no more a road game for PC to play at Somerset than it is Rockcaslte to play in this. I just cannot get over people trying to rotate a bowl game developed, planned and executed by one school who initiated this in honor of their own.

 

It seems like every year great football is played at this bowl and every year there numerous complaints. Wasn't there letters to the editor in the Commonwealth Journal for weeks after last years fiasco?

I do not think anyone expects the "Correll Bowl" to rotate. Sounds like Pulaski just wants to play Somerset at their place on an occasion. As far as driving across the road and picking up a big check--it appears SHS benefits from the fan base of the county. Sure SHS runs the show but I am sure they pay themselves well for their time before the money is split. Do they not make any money off the concessions? Maybe PC and SWHS boosters would like that opportunity as well. Face it, without the support from the county schools there would be no "Correll Bowl".

I think the biggest point here is that pulaski would like to play Somerset every year. I don't see why that isn't happing. They play every year in every other sport. They also play each other every year in middle school football. I believe everyone would love to see it happen. Say what you want about Southwestern vs Pulaski or Southwestern vs Somerset, but we all know the true cross town rival game is PULASKI VS SOMERSET!:ylsuper:

Fact is, there has been nothing stopping them from putting in the work necessary to put on their own bowl game, they have just choose to take the easy money from the RCB. Good luck with your bowl and best wishes.
