I agree-For example: Somerset Played Southwestern this year @ home (Correll Bowl), then they should play Pulaski @ Pulaski .It would be switched every year. I don't know all the facts about the money-but I do know Slink has some good figures in front of us !:argue:

 

I think Slink has his numbers wrong. Here's a link to the article in which Somerset's AD wrote a letter to try and keep the County Schools in the Correll Bowl. Each local school takes home between $7000 and $8000 each year. Also there were not 8000 tickets sold this year. Here's the link, the figures are in the 5th paragraph of Mr. Tucker's letter:

No one from the County Schools have come forward to dispute those numbers, which I would think would have happened if they were untrue. If the revenue is split between the 3 local schools that way it would be unfair for Somerset to have to always play the 2nd County School on the road and not get part of the gate. Either they would need to be given part of the gate or go with a schedule like this if PC or SWHS were going to keep all of the gate at their home fields:

Yea, I read that article as well so I'm not sure where Slink got his figures from.

 

IMHO I don't think Hines should have stated PC wouldn't be returning to the CB, cause in todays paper Bowers stated he didn't even know about it all.

 

This bowl is great for the community and helps all three schools, so I don't see what the problem is with it all. I am a maroon fan myself, but I like to see all our local schools do great during the season, so the more profit they all get the better it helps ALL the boys..

However Somerset should be required to play both county schools at their home fields every other year. THat would be in the best interest of the players and fans. Plus it would be a big gate, that would boost the athletic depts. bottom line.

 

I know some will argue the 6a vs 3A but Somerset has a ton of young talent and will definately be able to compete with the county schools the next two years.

That would be an ideal situation, but Coach Cobb refuses to play both county schools in the same year. I promise if Coach Cobb agreed to play the other county school, Coach's Anderson and Hines would gladly split the gate three ways. The ball is in Coach Cobb's court.

I know Joe answered some of this but since you were responding to my post I will respond to yours.

 

1st there were NOT 8000 people at the game, more like 3000

2nd All three schools have received between $7,000 and $8,000 each year for the last several years NOT $2,000

3rd The RCB paid $4,000 to the visiting not local team, NOT $2,000.

 

If Pulaski and Southwestern were only getting $2,000 ea. they would have left years ago to play in another bowl with better pay off.

I for one am glad to see the success of all three high school programs. The RCB is a great forum to celebrate that each year. The fixation on Somerset by the (one) county school really confuses me. SW has been very successful and does not need to validate themselves to anyone in this area. Pulaski's success while marginal, is growing each year. Some seem to think the only way to validate their program is to play SHS every year.

I never can figure out what the big fuss is all about in this bowl game concerning playing on Somerset's home field every year. I mean it is a home game for all 3 schools. It would be different if they had to travel to even Wayne County but my goodness it is only 5-10 miles and what does home field have to do with it when every other year your not even playing Somerset.

They do NOT owe something to the other schools, they owe it to the fans of this area and players in both programs to play the county schools every year.

As it is now SHS gets a big, big, big concession night during the RCB. I am told that money all goes to Somerset. ( and the parents and booster club do a wonderful job and deserve every cent they make). As a basketball coach and golf coach at Southwestern, my programs would definately benefit from concessions from a Somerset game every other year.

 

As far as giving Somerset a cut of the gate, that could probably be worked out.

When I Coached Football at Southwestern we played Trinity in a Scrimmage. They dressed 105 players and left their freshman at home. It was a close until about the 4th quarter when they pulled away. The next week we played Oneida, they dressed 33 players. They kicked our butts for 4 quarters. So superior numbers doesn't always make a difference. Oneida dressed 33 and had 33 tough nosed players. I do not know how many players somerset dresses, but they have several talented athletes and are well coached. It would be a competitive game year for the next 5 years anyway.

 

I would say if the Somerset played SW or PC then those schools would be circled on the jumpers schedule as well. Thats what makes it interesting for the players and fans.

The Ray Correll Bowl should be rotated between all three local schools. Thats a easy quick solution. If Somerset doesn't want this then both county schools should move on.

There's no way that this would work. First off Ray Correll is a Somerset graduate and the Bowl was developed to honor him by Somerset. Somerset should not have to give up a Bowl Game that they developed. Secondly, although both County Schools have nice fields and facilities they do not have enough seating for all 3 local schools plus another team that has a good following to play on the same night. The home side bleachers at Somerset were about 2/3 full and the visitors side bleachers almost completely full for this year's game. Neither County school can hold that many spectators. The County Schools have already signed on for 2 more years so they aren't moving on anyway. :thumb:
