What advantage? Somerset has lost the last two games.

When rivals are playing you can pretty much toss out home field advantage.

Fact is, there has been nothing stopping them from putting in the work necessary to put on their own bowl game, they have just choose to take the easy money from the RCB. Good luck with your bowl and best wishes.

I think that this has been spun that PC needs this bowl game more than Somerset needs the PC fan base to show up. I think that Somerset should recognize that they need PC just as much...and if they don't then why try to PUBLICLY bully a team into playing in YOUR bowl game?

Not sure Somerset was even invited to the DMB, even if they were I'm pretty sure Somerset already has a signed contract for week 2 for next year and therfore couldn't be in it any way.

Not sure begging is the right description, Bob Tucker Somerset AD just stated the facts as they were. According to the Pulaski Principal he had no idea that his school had pulled out of the RCB until he saw a story in the paper stating that his coach had decided to no longer play in it. If anyone was bullied I would say Mr. Bowers explained the chain of command to Mr. Hines. When asked about being back in the RCB Coach Hines stated that he had no comment on the RCB. Evidently he was very upset about having to play in it again.

 

I agree with SW Forever, I would let them hit the door. I do think the RCB is a great night of football for our community and brings everyone together.

 

The only person that has ever seemed to have any problems with the RCB is the former Briar Jumper and current Maroon Coach Johnny Hines. From last years complaints to the paper about the RCB to trying to leave this year without telling his administration, he just has a major issue with the RCB and more so Somerset.

That's not the way it actually read. Mr. Tucker was told that PC's parents and boosters wanted to stay in the bowl. Coach Hines was the reason that they were not. The way that you describe it is totally false. Here's the letter:

 

This is indeed a sincere attempt on my part to hold together the original intent of the “Correll Bowl”!

 

This is my answer to Pulaski County High School and comes specifically from the demands of Pulaski parents and boosters who feel the Bowl is an excellent venue for all three local teams. They state “Pulaski wants to stay in, but I want them out.” I have been admonished that “I haven’t done enough to try and keep the Bowl together”, and that I wanted Pulaski County out of the Bowl so we could make more money or play Southwestern every year.

 

Let me go on the record with my desire to have Pulaski County continue in the Ray Correll Bowl. The original intent of the Bowl was for Somerset to play Pulaski or Southwestern and not have to choose between the two. Somerset would alternate years playing the two county schools.

 

I don’t believe any of us around at the time (six years ago) could foresee the growth of this community event. And whether we want to admit it or not, it is an event for our community! It is the only chance for our community to see all three local teams play on the same night. The ‘Parking Lot Paloosa’ has grown each year.

 

Let me talk about the revenue each school generates. Pulaski, Somerset and Southwestern have taken home between $7,000 to $8,000 each year. And will do so again this year, even after dropping ticket prices from $10 back to $8. This is every year, not every other year.

 

I know what it now costs to outfit our players. I can’t answer for Pulaski, but Somerset football needs the money.

 

To just show up and take in this amount of money is extraordinary. (We start preparing the stadium on Monday for Friday’s game). To say the field is an unfair advantage? Look at the results of the past two seasons!

 

I really can’t understand that since Pulaski and Southwestern both defeated Somerset.

 

Please, please give this some consideration. Not just for the money, (which with transportation costs rising is indeed a sensitive issue), but for the sake of the players, students and community. I know where your school would like to be playing, and many of your parents have let me know in no uncertain terms.

 

I approached Pulaski principal Rob Bowers at the game with a plea to stay in the bowl. This is another written plea, I hope all egos can be placed aside and common sense rule.

 

This is what we envisioned when we started it — I want to keep it this way!

I still can't help but feeling that to voice this in the newspaper without talking to PC Administration (if they didn't know, I can't see how they didn't) smells a lot like begging - the meeting between administrations didn't happen until after the printing. Sure he may have been stating what he thought were just the facts, but why in that venue? I have seen first hand the treatment PC has received at the RCB over the last 2 years. This year Coach Tucker told PC they could dress in the Weight Room (when they arrived at the veune) so the coaches took them there only to have the home school coach tell them to "get out". The PC coaches stayed anyway. There is no excuse for this treatment, especially of a "hometown team". Now I am sure that Coach Tucker will deny this and tell you the "truth", but this happened, it is reality. Let me end this post with this, I can admire your blind devotion to your school, but not every that comes out of the establishment is truth. It is unfortunate that, we the public, have to get on here and be forced to play the HE SAID, HE SAID game, but here we are.

No it did happen, Somerset was in the middle of team position meetings when Pulaski came walking in unannounced. They were unaware of what Tucker had told the Pulaski team or that they were even there yet. The Somerset team ended their meetings and left the weight room to Pulaski.

WOW that hurts......not. Just in case you were misinformed there was NO SIGNED CONTRACT with Mercer, if there had been Somerset would have had to play them or pay them.

That doesn't even make any sense. If Somerset didn't want to play the Maroons then why try to keep them in the Bowl? Are you on the thread just to taunt Somerset? I thought you were better than that.
