McCain/Palin response ad: "Lipstick"

Featured Replies

I think the McBush campaign is running out of straws. If Palin thinks Obama called her a PIG then grab a microphone and confront him. Otherwise, she should quit whinning.

In six of the eight years of George W. Bush's two terms, his party controlled both the executive and legislative branches.

And the Democrats are just as much to blame?

It's the one flimsy fragment of an argument Bush/McCain supporters can grab hold of to shield themselves from the immutable failure of 8 years of GOP governance. Never mind that the Democrats held a 1 seat majority in the Senate and could never hope to override a Presidential veto.

When the Democrats took control oil was $50 a barrel. What is it now? But everyone wants to blame Bush. The economy was just fine two years ago. How's it doing now? Oh, but that's all Bush's fault right? I don't even know why we have Congress. They obviously don't do anything and have zero control or say about what happens in this country.
If you can show me a link connecting the rising price of oil with something the Democrat-controlled Congress has done, go right ahead ...

And maybe you're missing my point ... it certainly wasn't all roses when the Democrats regained control of Congress in 2006. If everything was fine, the Republicans would still be in control.

If you will note, because obviously you only retained the parts of my post that you wanted to, I said the Dems can be blamed for as much as the Reps (Bush included). Bush has spent money like Bill Clinton at the strip club and congress has done nothing but sign the checks. Congress's approval rating is almost single digits. They control the house and senate. People need to wake up and quit buying the left's bull that the countries mess can all be laid at Bush's feet.

Well, when you control both houses of Congress and the White House, and have the country unified behind you in response to a national tragedy, and you utterly fail to use that situation effectively, it's pretty hard to claim the other guy owns an equal share of the failure. The Republicans have squandered the opportunities handed to them over the last eight years.

That ad is sad. Sad how they misrepresented the comment and make it out to be a direct insult towards Palin........McCain is making himself look childish. Just grasping at straws. It's a shame they don't show the whole comment so you can see it isn't a sexist remark towards Palin, instead a remark aimed at McCain's platform. I wasn't decided on who I would vote for, but after this I don't think I can vote for McCain. How immature. Like kids on a playground.

BTW, people who live in glass houses...........what fox news isn't showing you. This was from a speech McCain gave in Oct 2007.

Never said I was a Bush or McCain supporter. 1 seat or not are you telling me it means nothing?

yes it means nothing b/c the senate established the super majority rule where it takes 60 to get anything passed. 51-49 is not 60. The only thing that really changed was the committee chairs.

I believe 60 votes are required to overcome a filibuster, and a 2/3 vote is required to override a veto. Democrats have a 51-49 margin in the Senate since 2006, and 2 of those 51 are actually Independents (one being Joe Lieberman). So it is actually 49/49/2, with tiebreaker being VP Dick Cheney. Not a tremendous amount of control.

Due to rules set by Harry Reid while the Democrats were not a majority in the senate, you need 60 votes to do anything. The Republicans never had a 60-40 majority in the Senate, so if you want to defend the Democrats inactivity, then the same excuse is applicable to the Republicans

 Harry Reid made the rule that 60 votes are required to end a filibuster? News to me. I thought that was specified in the Constitution. In spite of their lack of a 60 vote Senate majority, the Republicans have a much weaker excuse for their poor governance from 2001-2006 because they controlled the executive branch. There was no veto threat. What we have had since 2006 has truly been gridlock.

And all of the unbiased media is attacking Palin, please...

This is why I can't watch more than 4 seconds of Fox News.

I have to wonder why he got the reaction he did before he ever delivered the punchline. Seems like many in the crowd thought it was in reference to Palin's comments to me, regardless of how he meant it.

Considering you didn't even hear on the video what he said before that I don't see how you can draw that conclusion.
