I voted good, but not great, seems to fit in with what everyone else said.

 

I wasn't a big Nirvana fan, but they changed the face of music. Hair metal was nearing an end and it was time for something new. The so called "grunge" scene may have only lasted 5 years or so, but Nirvana got that started.

I think I've got it. I just recall thinking that Teen Spirit with the piano didn't quite capture it, but her voice is awesome.

A far worse song from the 90's was that vomit inducing "My heart Will Go On" from the Godforsaken "Titanic" movie. Egads. Makes me sick just to think about Celine Dion and her "catterwailin'" as my Grandma would say.

I vote for one more option in the poll: Great song, but not greatest ever. And not Nirvana's greatest ever, either.

 

For what it's worth, I wasn't a big fan of Nirvana when they first hit big. I just didn't buy into the hype, and came around to them gradually. But the guy was a fantastic songwriter. And part of their appeal at the time is the fact that it was so incredibly different from what was going on in hard rock at the time. You have to remember that hair metal was dominating the hard rock scene at the time, and people were starved for something different from effeminate clowns like Poison, Winger, etc.

You might not have received the memo, but a few years back it was declared that the Canuck chanteuse's name is no longer permitted to be mentioned on BGP because of her considerable sins against the art of music. Between her and Bryan Adams, I think there is more than enough justification for an invasion of Canada.

Cobain said in interviews that he thought the song sounded too much like Boston's "More Than A Feeling," just at a different speed and with a different sound to the instruments. The band members thought that "Come As You Are" would be the biggest hit from the album.

 

I like the song. I certainly don't think it's their best.

I just checked it out on you tube and I definitely haven't ever heard it before. Actually, I don't know if I have ever even heard any Nirvana songs before.
