August 17, 200818 yr While there are legitimate people who do truly need help there are many more who simply expect a handout. I for one, do not want to enable them. While we need to help those that do indeed need the help we also need to make sure that the able bodied aren't simply abusing the system. I am for less entitlements and allowing the system only to help those who are truly needy. I wouldn't mind paying taxes so much then----if I knew for sure it was going to those that need it and not to those who are simply too sorry to get a job. If, as a country, we choose to help the truly needy, there will be some that will abuse the system. It is important that we attempt to weed out those that would abuse the system, but make no mistake, some will slip through. You have to ask yourself a question. Which is more important to you? Is it more important to you that we provide help to the truly needy or that we make sure that no one abuse our generosity. If you have zero tolerance for abuse, then you have to decide to help no one. I believe that most people receiving aid truly need the help.
August 17, 200818 yr I'm a conservative Demo, story didn't bother me, just waiting until the lowest ranking President in history is out of here. Anybody McClain/Obama just hope they are better. Ironically, Truman had horrible ratings too. And 50 years later he is seen as a pretty good President.
August 18, 200818 yr Author Fundamentally speaking, I can not see how a Christian could be a Democrat....very confusing for me.
August 18, 200818 yr Fundamentally speaking, I can not see how a Christian could be a Democrat....very confusing for me. I think there is parts of both parties that is hard for a Christian to swallow. With me the abortion issue with Democrats is a bigger lump to swallow than the problems that Republicans bring to the table.
August 18, 200818 yr What a weird coincidence, I had a friend email me this saying he told his friend's little girl the same thing, word for word.
August 18, 200818 yr Fundamentally speaking, I can not see how a Christian could be a Democrat....very confusing for me. Wow, maybe you should meet my dad. Or, maybe you just think that all Democrats subscribe to that which the national party leaders stand up for. Seems to me a great number of Republicans aren't very Christian with their ignoring Jesus' admonition of caring for the poor.

Wasn't there an article not long ago that said Republicans give to the poor more than Democrats?

August 18, 200818 yr Ironically, Truman had horrible ratings too. And 50 years later he is seen as a pretty good President. Good Lord is all I can say to this.
