This is my opinion of Notre Dame Football at this point in time:

The race card is getting old. Yes, the records are similar due only to last season, and honestly a big part of the problem last year was a lack of talent in the upperclassmen due to an absolute horrible job of recruiting by Ty.

 

The biggest difference between Chuck and Ty after year 3 is at least with Chuck their is optimism for the future as he has brought in some loaded recruiting classes the last two seasons. Ty was let go for a lot of the same reasons why UK fans for the most part were not sorry to see Tubby depart. He got lazy during the recruiting season.

 

Ty lucky UW hasn't canned him after 3 seasons in which he is 11-25. As usual he is doing a poor job of recruiting this summer. Notre Dame already has 14 verbals, UK has 16. UW has only 5, and 2 of those aren't even ranked players.

 

IMO, it is going to take a miracle for Ty to survive this season. Bet you don't see all the race comments when UW lets him go.

I like ND. They're not my favorite, but I've always enjoyed watching them. College football is more interesting when the Irish are a factor, IMO.

 

I also agree with your original assessment. I think they'll be much improved this season and start the turnaround...I think Weis is on his way to getting them back in the picture. This season is a big key to that though. They need to win 8 games (or more) to build the optimism and keep the recruiting ball rolling.

After last season ND has no where to go but up. So I think they will be improved as well.

Strike-3 is 100% correct in that Ty's last two classes were horrible. Atleast with CW's recruiting job the future looks bright.

We'll see last years class didn't produce like everyone projected. The only way is up for ND.

Apparantly So. WR Duval Kamara entered camp a little heavier than Weis would like, so he'll be wearing #60 until he under 220 lbs. Probably not a unique tactic for a coach to use, but I've never seen it before and it made me laugh.

 

 

He actually calls him "#60" instead of saying his name.

 

Your boy Rudolph is a beast. I saw him in the South Dining Hall about 6 weeks ago. He's been tearing it up in practice.

 

Richard Jackson has left the team, which is a good sign in a way, other than him not getting a ND degree. He saw that the freshmen WR's were so much better than he was, and saw the writing on the wall. I expect a few more to take this route in the next 2 years.

While I think Claussen is the #1 it will be interesting to see how he has progressed and if Crist gets any looks.

 

I hope Crist doesn't take a snap this year. Sharpley will back up if JC goes down late in the year, in order to allow Crist the 5th year if needed. Besides, we can't keep having true frosh QB's. That's not a recipe for success.

When you compare what he did in 3 seasons compared to what Chuck has done in 3 seasons you can't tell me RACE didn't play a role in the firing. Not that it matters but I tend to root against them a little more now because of that situation.

Ty was so smart that he signed 9 WR's and 2 OL in his last 3 recruiting classes. Tell me another team that is successfull with that formula. The results were evident last season with 58 sacks, an NCAA record.

 

I think his biggest error, the one that turned me off, is when he stated that "6-5 was a winning season the last time I checked." This in response to a question about his thoughts about the disappointing season from a reporter. Any coach who said that should be fired.

 

Washington would love to fire him, but they can't because they would have to deal with all the race nonsense. I expect him gone anywhere from halfway through this season to the end of the season. He is recruiting there like he did at ND. He just signed his 1st recruit a few weeks ago, the last D1 school to ink a recruit. A zero* QB to boot.

Although I am not a ND fan. I have always respect and enjoyed watching ND football. The Holtz era was my favorite.

I am a Willingham fan to some degree, but don't think either party handled it the best way. He talked down to you at press conferences, and was shopping for a job BEFORE he was ever considered to be let go by ND. He illegally spoke with Washington while he was still at ND, which was a factor in pursuing his dismissal. Had that not happened, he likely would hvae had one more season at least. In the end, it worked out best for both parties.

 

I thought he was a great man, but two statement he made were my undoing with Ty. First, claiming 6-5 was a winning record when asked about his evaluation of the season. technically correct, improper for any coach on any level to say. Second, saying he would cut his golf game back to 9 holes instead of 18 holes a day during recruiting season. Hence, you hear the ND fans joke about Ty on the course more thn anything else.

 

As a man, I admire him, but not all good men are good coaches. Visit a Huskies site to see what I mean.

In football you are going to be hard pressed to find a class to reach their projected level as Freshmen. Actually you are not going to be hard pressed, it just does not exist. Relying on multiple Freshmen for production at the big boy college level is a recipe for disaster (or 3-9 season).
