6-6 not good but heck of a lot better than 3-9 with losses to Navy and Air Force

You dont see Tom Osborne out on tv saying they will win 11 games this year like a wacko either.

They were ranked to start the year last year, and how about 5-7.

 

In last 7 games went 1-6. So I wouldn't say awsome.

With Notre Dame Football you win, thats it. Like Lou Holtz said last night, they were mad at him for finishing 2nd in the country. Thats great what Ty does with his players and all but Notre Dame wants to win.

 

Now I know they were horrible last year under CW, but still he has great recruits and obvisouly they think this program is going to win in the future under CW.

 

Last time I checked UK hasn't had a top ten recruiting class in some time, Notre Dame has alot of them and two or so just under the reign of Charlie Weis, but who won more games last year? This isn't a stab at ND, but I think all the Notre Dame fans are making to much of the recruiting classes.

There's no getting around it, TW was treated unfairly. I would expect better out of ND.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm not a big ND fan, at all), but didn't Weis win with Ty's players?

 

 

He lost with them too BTW.

 

For that matter, then Ty won with Bob Davies' players.

Actually he won at Stanford with someone else's players, then things went downhill. He won at ND with someone else's players, then things went downhill. He won at Washington......err, nevermind.

 

The jury is still out on Weis, but he recruits a lot better than Ty, and that's is what is keeping the natives from getting restless, plus two BCS games, even though they were big losses. Ty was relying on David Wolke to replace Brady Quinn, and he couldn't even start at WKU when he transferred there.

 

Where did I say he was a good coach? I said that he has an impressive bio.

 

There's no disputing that. And, personally, I think he did well at ND with the exception of his last year.

 

Since his 2nd to last year was 5-7, and his last year was 6-6, why do you just have an issue with the last year? It was better than the previous year. He had two consecutive non winning seasons, Weis has only one.

 

 

 

You really need to spend some time on a Washington site to get the whole Ty vibe.

While at Notre Dame, Willingham's 2002 team posted a record high GPA of 2.911 in the spring and 2.835 in the fall. That was followed up by a 2.79 GPA in the Spring of '03 & 2.911 in the spring of '02. Willingham's teams also had similar success in his years prior to ND, at Stanford. Granted, ND & Stanford are two schools who are highly respected when it comes to academics, but Willingham's teams are some of the best academically as well.

 

Weis has never had a GPA that low. The team has been at 3.0 or higher the past two seasons. 3.0 should be a given for any student honestly.

 

How many times have we said that the main reason Ty was let go was because of were the program was headed. That was based off his recruiting classes and as last year showed with the Juniors and Seniors(Ty's last two classes) they were not very good.

Again, the gap last season was the lack of OL recruits in Ty's last classes, coupled with curious coaching at times by Weis. How well would the Cats be if they signed 9 WR and 2 OL in a 3 year period? This is why Clausen was on his back and hurt all year. This has to improve to be successful. You couldn't expect all frosh or sophomores (Weis recruits) to fill those spots last season and be successful. Plus, they don't reshirt, so they are true FR and SO. I would guess 80% of all OL players in the country use a redshirt year on their OL, to build strength. That is a big deal.

I find it interesting on much emphasis ND fans put on recruiting.

 

There are plenty of schools out there who are not nearly as successful as Notre Dame but win more games. How can that be, when ND has so many top recruits?

ND sports an extremely weak schedule, so I definitely think 8 wins is attainable. However, as several have already said... If I were a ND fan I would be worried about the anemic offensive.
