August 13, 200818 yr I must say I'm disappointed to see Patterson and Bako in the lineup instead of take your pick between Phillips and Cabrera in the OF and Hanigan at catcher. I agree. If the "rebuilding" is underway, get these two off the roster. They, hopefully, should not be part of the future. I know these are Dusty's boys, but come one. They have proved to be duds over and over again. At least see what some of the kids can do, you know what the ex-Cubs brigade bring to the table.

I believe it's in the process and these remaining games, should be about making an impression for the future and playing for pride.

I didn't like spending that much on him at the time, and still don't but it shows that The ownership is willing to spend money in the Free Agent market to become a better team. They outbid the Brewers. There will be other big teams in on bigger players. Adding a bigger free agent than Cordero will be more money for more years and a worse contract. Willing to spend money doesn't mean it will be spent correctly. They will never spend the money that big market teams do. They need to get younger, faster, and cheaper. If they feel they're close then they go after free agents. They aren't close. Helping a bullpen for a team that could lose 100 games doesn't excite me.

Weathers numbers last year and Cordero's numbers this year were almost the same. The bullpen had to get better but not for that amount of money and for that amount of years. If they thought they could win the division this year it was a good move. It will not be a good move for the next 3 years. I think that the Reds and many other clubs over the years have shown that finding closers is easier than just throwing a bunch of money at them.

August 13, 200818 yr I was ok with the CoCo signing at the time. And it has helped the bullpen, they are one of the top four bullpens in the senior circuit. When, in the last decade, could you say the pen is the strength of Reds. CoCo is the least of the Reds problems. Him being the anchor has allowed others to excel in new roles. He has also been an important mentor to Volquez and Cueto. I like the guy, he is high energy and a Pro's Pro.
