August 8, 200818 yr Can John Edwards survive this scandal? Will he be speaking at the Democratic convention? If the allegations are true is there any chance that he will ever become Attorney General or ever get elected to another public office? Does anybody else remember how much coverage sex scandals involving Dan Burton and Henry Hyde received- or how Newt Gingrich was crucified for divorcing his former wife who was battling cancer? Why is the mainstream media ignoring the John Edwards sex scandal?
August 8, 200818 yr Doesn't seem like they have very much evidence against him. She had a baby and the fathers name was not listed. She was a camera girl that John Edwards joked with... Not very compelling evidence IMO.
August 8, 200818 yr I think many view him as a lightweight so I'm not sure what his future was going to be. However, did I hear right? Is the source for this story the National Enquirer?

August 8, 200818 yr Author Doesn't seem like they have very much evidence against him. She had a baby and the fathers name was not listed. She was a camera girl that John Edwards joked with... Not very compelling evidence IMO. Where is the denial? Where is the request for a denial by the media? If Edwards were a Republican, the media would not rest until he confessed or proved his innocence. The mainstream media had not qualms about running with National Enquirer stories when the Clinton's were using the tabloid to smear Republicans during the impeachment process. Do you think that the Clintons may be moving to thin the potential field of presidential candidates for Hillary's 2012 run? As for evidence, leaving the room of a woman with whom you were already alleged to have had an affair and a "love child" at 2:40 AM is not too shabby, IMO. Hiding out in mens' room until hotel security came to shield him from the media was also a little bit suspicious for a man with nothing to hide. How do you think that the evidence in this case stacks up against the evidence that the New York Times had to back up its front page story alleging an inappropriate relationship between John McCain and a female lobbyist? August 8, 200818 yr Author I think many view him as a lightweight so I'm not sure what his future was going to be. However, did I hear right? Is the source for this story the National Enquirer? You heard right - the same rag that the Clinton personal lawyer David Kendall used to smear Clinton's Republican political enemies in the late 90's. I think history may be repeating itself except this time Hillary may be using the paper to take out her Democratic rival.

That seems to be the question. If it isnt true, why doesnt he simply deny it? Well, I have mixed feelings about this, and Im a republican. If these politicians have to dignify every baseless allegation, there will only be more and more. Lyndon Johnson said he used to enjoy accusing political opponents of having sex with animals. When asked if he really believed his accusation, Johnson said "no, but its a lot of fun watching them deny it."

The rumor has been around for well over a year and the Enquirer received a tip that Edwards would be making a late night visit to this woman and her child - and Edwards showed up at her door. The real story is not the alleged affair but the way that the mainstream media has resisted covering it. The New York Times accused McCain of having an affair with a lobbyist in a front page, above the fold story for which it apparently had no evidence. The Edwards non-story is just another example of media bias toward liberals. Fox News has been the only major network to cover the story at all and they have given it very little coverage. If not for this allegation, Edwards would be delivering one of his capitalist-bashing speeches in prime time at the Democratic convention, so the allegation itself should be news. The mainstream media could be asking the question of whether Edwards would be playing a prominent role at the convention but instead there is a news blackout where Edwards is concerned.

Im sure that you are right about this particular item not being baseless and I agree with all your points 100%. All I was saying is that, dem or rep, politicians shouldnt be asked to respond to every little accusation. However, it doesnt sound like the Edwards situation falls into this catagory. And if I really wanted to get someone, I dont believe I would have called the Enquirer to do it. It seems like a mainstream publication would have demanded more attention. I guess they figured that the Enquirer wouldnt be biased...they are after everyone!!:thumb:

In addition, the Enquirer was probably willing to pay dearly for the tip once it panned out. That is something that a "legitimate" newspaper like the New York Times, which is suffering record losses, cannot afford to do.

Well, if anyone would know about a husband cheating, she would be the expert.
August 8, 200818 yr According to Drudge he's admitted it. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=5441195&page=1 This link may shed some light on "John The Liar"
