August 7, 200818 yr I ticked! That's the last place I wanted him to go! Why would you go to the Jets? They stink! They upgraded their Oline but they aren't close to winning it all IMO. The only good thing is seeing him and Brady go at it twice and hopefully Peyton. What a waste! The Jets are close to being the worst team in their division! The Jets are just as close to winning it all as the Buccaneers. The only team that would have possibly wanted Favre that would have been a serious title contender is Minnesota and that wasn't going to happen. To me, going to the Jets makes more sense from Favre's perspective.
August 7, 200818 yr Too bad Favre doesn't have a decent receiving corps to toss the pigskin to. 6 different Jets players combined to catch a total of 15 TD's last season. Yeah, it would help if they had a decent QB throwing them the ball (they do now) but still, that's pathetic. Coles is okay but that's about it. Cotchery is just as good as Coles...he's got two pretty good WR's in those two, the rookie TE Keller and Leon Washington is a good receiver out of the backfield. He's got more weapons in NY than he would have had in Tampa, so why was everyone so excited about that move?

That means the Jets are close to a lock to be playing for the wild card in the AFC that is absolutly LOADED! I respectfully disagree bigtime with you.

Who cares if the Bucs won one of the weakest divisions in the NFL? They lost their first round playoff game on their homefield...to a Giants team who won the Super Bowl as a wild card. The Jets with Favre are better than the Bucs with Favre. Their supporting cast is better.

That means you are playing for the wild card against the Colts,Jags,Steelers,Ravens,Broncos,Bengals,Browns,Bills,Titans,Texans. Good luck with that one. It's not all about offense. I agree that the Jets have put together a nice oline and T. Jones is good. Cotch+Coles are good possesion WR's but they don't stretch the field. Worst of all is that it is a TOTALLY different system than the West Coast (which the Bucs run and Farve has run his whole career)+ the Bucs defense would play circles around the Jets defense! They were awful with their best defensive player Vilma and now he's gone!

They were awful with their best defensive player Vilma and now he's gone! Forget the "winning it all" argument. It's irrelevant because neither team is good enough to do so with our without Favre. It's like arguing about whether the Dolphins chances of winning it all are better than the Falcons. It's fine if you think the Bucs are better than the Jets. I disagree. The real point is that there isn't a big difference in the two teams. Neither are going to win a title this season. The posts I've read on here make it sound like the Bucs were the Patriots and the Jets were the Falcons...and Favre decided to play for Atlanta. Considering the two are comparable, Favre is better off going to the team that surrounds him with better offensive talent and that team is the Jets.
August 7, 200818 yr Interesting tidbit I heard on NFL Radio... Not only will the Packers get 3 #1 draft picks if the Jets trade him to anyone in the NFC North division, but they would get 3 #1 draft picks if the Jets traded him to anyone else and that team traded him to a team in the NFC North. They weren't leaving anything to chance...

August 7, 200818 yr The Bucs have a 10 times better coach... You'd definitely have to give Gruden the edge, but Mangini has only coaches two seasons. He hasn't been around long enough to know how good he is or isn't.

Their supporting cast is better. So being in the weakest division isn't a positive? If you win your division, you make the playoffs, the Jets have NO chance of doing that, so their odds of making the playofss are 8%. The Bucs can win the weakest division, so their odds are 25%.

I would think that the deal would be sweeter if the Bucs had gotten Favre, because the likely event that they make the playoffs would have all but guaranteed that 2nd Round pick. I don't think the same guarantee can be said for the Jets.

I would think that the deal would be sweeter if the Bucs had gotten Favre, because the likely event that they make the playoffs would have all but guaranteed that 2nd Round pick. I don't think the same guarantee can be said for the Jets. I hadn't thought of that. And, it's a great point from the Packers perspective. Did both teams offer the same deal to GB? If so, I'd be curious to know why they chose to accept the Jets offer. However, my previous argument is from Favre's perspective...and from his perspective, I think the Jets is a better situation. The Jets have a better supporting cast around him on the offensive side of the ball. I also think the ceiling is higher in New York if things work out. So, while it's a legitimate argument to say that Tampa's odds of making the playoffs are better because they're in a weaker conference, it's not enough to sway my opinion. If the Jets reach their potential with Favre, they've got a great shot at making the playoffs and from there you just have to play your best and hope things break your way. If I were Favre, at this point in my career, I'd rather take a shot with the Jets where there is more potential if everything clicks than "play it safe" with a Tampa team that can't surround me with as much offensive support. Just my take...
August 7, 200818 yr Anyone know if any networks are picking up the Jets/Browns game tonight because of this? I have Direct tv and it is on cbsE, which I dont get, and on delayed on one of the FSN channels.

I have Direct tv and it is on cbsE, which I dont get, and on delayed on one of the FSN channels. Id say Favre hasn't even took his physical for the Jets yet, so no chance he plays. More than likely the reason this one wont be televised. Favre more than likely could not even be at the game.
