Just for the record, one are of special needs students that is overlooked IMMENSELY because it is not politically smart to wave the banner of these students, are the gifted and talented students.

This is what I love most about the teaching profession. Just leave us alone and don't hold us accountable and don't make us improve, and oh by the way pay us more.

 

Guess what, go get a reality check - those who work in various industries except for the safe haven of tenure change literally daily. It is called being effective, improving, etc. EVERYONE who works will agree change is something that is not an option but an expected requirement. Oh, in my work, I change 100% every chance I get to be better than what I am up against or compared to. So I embrace it. Your words clearly show you resent anyone coming into your classroom and pointing out where things need to be better.

 

By the way, the education people had their chance to run education. Everyone should have a boss. Teachers seem to have forgotten about that years ago.

I have no problem with being held accountable. I have a problem of being a political hostage to the latest person trying to get elected and throwing out the WRONG perception that schools are this horribly failing place and they are the one to change it.

How would you like about 90% of what you have to do as a teacher to change every 4 years or so?

 

We have spent the past 4-6 years in numerous PD's either learning what we need to do for NCLB or the changes recently made in the KY testing system.

 

Great chance that both are going to change and everything we have been taught, told to do, and changed lesson plans for in the past 4-6 years is of no use.

 

We will spend the next 4-6 years learning, analyzing, and studying what we are supposed to do for the next group of politicians KNOWING that in about 7-8 years all that we have learned is of no use.

 

How about the politicians let the education people handle education and them stick to politicking.

 

I'm married to a teacher and I am just now getting adjusted to this system. I can't wait for a big change.:scared:

Shoot I will be hopefully teaching next year and I don't want the government trying to change anything...That is my job, and is why I'm being hired..I want to change kids lives on my own, not have a government regulated program that will maybe change kids...

I have to agree with that one. Not only are there continual changes, most of those changes require more and more paperwork that takes teachers AWAY from the students which is ridiculous! This along with constant budget cuts and larger classroom sizes.

Agreed :thumb:. If the government would just allow teachers to teach, life would be much easier. In todays school, you are always doing paperwork, lesson plans, meetings, and professional development. The school day last from 8-3 for students, However the educators day is much longer. The government already choses what students need to learn, with Program of studies, core content, and academic expectations. Why dont they cut the bologna and let teachers do their jobs the way that they know they can. Find a plan and stick with, dont change every political season.

Observations...

 

1. I am happy that the school that I teach at was part of the 70% that met their goals.

2. I am fine with change...as long as it follow a research based, sensible line of thinking. A good teacher has to change continuously, regardless of what current policy is in place.

3. NCLB is good in principle, but not in actuality. When special needs teachers that have been teaching for 25 years are not listed as "highly qualified," something is wrong. This is just ONE example of the numerous problems with it.

4. Current successful educators at all levels should be included in any committee designed to make changes to education. What worked five years ago, does not work now.

I have resentment towards hypocrisy and unaccountable behavior and refuse to advance mentality. Teachers do not hold kingdom in their classroom. If NCLB showed anything it clearly demonstrated unaccountable actions by several. Not a majority but several. And guess who came to the defense of those who failed to do their job????
