Cawood beat Bell in 1986. The Trojans actually dominated the series for years and defeated Dudley Hilton's teams his first four years I think, including three at the new school. I think Cawood won the first game played at Log Mountain in 1984.

 

Maybe off on the team, but I know when Scott Russell was a Senior there was not many people in the mountains that wanted to try and stop him! He ran through Bell, Middlesboro, Pineville and pretty much anyone he played! He came back and coached at Bell and ran scout team for them and still ran through that team as a coach according to what I heard. That was back when that was acceptable of course though! That is the last big stud I remember hearing from any of those programs (Evarts, Cawood, Harlan)

Scott played at Evarts, not Cawood. He never played Bell County. Im Scott's biggest fan but I dont know of anyone that runs through Bell County that easily. But, you are right....he was a hoss!!

They were good boys with big hearts but were limited physically. One guard 5'9" 160 and the other guard 5'8" 175. The center wasnt very big either. Joey Hubbs was a heck off a blocking FB and Brad Kirby was a good blocker out of the backfield as well. The line did a good job but Scott got a lot of yards on 2cd and 3rd effort!:thumb:

Scott was the toughest "Off Tackle" running back I have ever seen! He punished people who met him head on and carried the ones who jumped on his back! Very similar to David Hensley from the early 80's.

You are exactly right. Thats a good observation. Scott could probably have had another 1000 or more yards. An example is in his junior year, his 2cd lowest rushing output was to Jenkins where he carried it 6 times for 186 yards and 4 td's. We were ashamed to let him have it any more!
