First referring to the Roenker thing, if you know him as well as you say you do you would know the only time he lies is when he says he isn't hurt to not come out of a game and I have been told by sources very close, like him, that he has been clocked at 90, also my arguement wasn't that he was 90 mph pitcher all day, just that he could hit it, I mean he has been at 80 since late 8th grade. Also, having been at a few Ryle JV games I just at times saw a team that looked lost and a few instances where they would show up a teammate.

 

:lol: Trust me, I know Andy as well as I say I do. I'll be sure to talk to him at our team party next weekend. Andy has never been clocked at 90. Ever. Mainly because he doesn't throw 90. He was clocked in mid-80's at a showcase camp at our end-of-season Columbus trip two weeks ago. And up until the last two weeks of summer, I highly doubt if he was hitting that. Like I said, his arm was very fatigued after high school ball and he struggled quite a bit this summer. I will very much agree, however, that Andy never wants to come out of a game and will never tell you he's sore or tired. Which is exactly why we put him on pitch counts - so he wasn't throwing an excessive amount of pitches even though he was telling us he was fine to continue.

 

With regard to Ryle's JV looking "lost", I can think of quite a few NKY high school JV teams that would liked to have looked as "lost" as they were while winning the regional championship with a 25-4 record. Varsity Coach Roesel - unquestionably one of the top coaches in NKY - will ensure the team "plays together" next year as they always do. You don't play together as he requires, you don't play. Period.

Speaking of Ryle, Etch (outstanding young man) didn't overly impress me this summer on the mound (not many of the pitchers of the Ky Colonels did) but the young man can hit, and he loves to play the game. Never saw him mope around once whether he played or sat the bench and he always seemed to have a smile on his face. Will be impossible to root against him next year, even though he does plays for Ryle!

 

Speaking of pitching, still can't understand why the Kentucky Colonles coaching staff hardly threw Nutini all summer long or for that matter let Isler throw that much either. If I am not mistaken the CovCath player who threw the most innings for the Ky Colonels was Darner.

 

BTW the most most improved player on the Ky Colonels team hands down this summer was Tyler Holocher. Those who saw him the last two years for CovCath playing SS will be amazed at how much better he has gotten. The kid impressed the heck out of me in the field this summer.

 

The biggest obstacle for the CovCath team this season will be themselves and their own mind set. Most fans seem to think they are the team to beat this year in the Ninth, but the CovCath team doesn't need to believe what the fans say or think, they need to prove it on the field. They need to come out strong and just show everybody in the ninth that this year, they (meaning all the other teams in the Ninth) are playing for second place, and do it each and every game.

Could he have thrown one perfect pitch in the last year 90, maybe, but to say that a pitcher throws at a certain speed they have to be in that range eighty percent plus of the time. I have seen Andy throw a few times and he is going to be real good, but he wasn't throwing near 90 and way too many of us get hung up on velocity anyways. I know we have discussed this topic on here before...at the high school level if you can throw around 80, with the ability to mix the breaking ball or off speed pitches, and throw all of them for strikes you will be extremely tough to hit.

That is exactly right. In highschool you can be a good pitcher with an average fastball with a good curve, and being able to hit your spots.

 

Andy is a very good pitcher whether he hits 90 eighty percent of the time or not. He still has great stuff and will be a top pitcher next year.

You clearly haven't witnessed 90 m.p.h., because Roenker is no where near that mark. I watched him struggle to throw 80-82 m.p.h. all summer long,without a doubt greatly do to the fact he clearly has some issues going on with arm strength. You would be lucky to find 5 pitchers in the whole state that throws 90 m.p.h.

Actually, that was the first time in the past few years that Conner beat Ryle so forgive me if I don't see you're one victory as a dynasty.

Conner has some good hitters, but they will not have the pitching tp make it out of the ninth.

Wow. A little testy? :lol: Conner certainly does deserve to be there (top 5) .

I think Boone is going to be very hard-pressed to match this year's performance. Obviously they lose Farris and I think they'll be very thin pitching. Conner should be very solid and will have a couple of solid throwers (Shuttlesworth/Samad). I think Ryle will have the best starting nine, but they'll need some people to step up in the pitching department. Can't see Cooper meaningfully competing in this district next year, or even a couple of years. Going to take a while to build a program there. l

The plain fact of the matter is that I put Conner in there purely based on their offense and with the way they hit the ball I believe you always have a fighting chance. What is the old saying about what wins championships- "Pitching and Defense" and right now that is why I have Cov Cath as the favorite heading into the season. The favorites can all change so abruptly though as the season progresses as we have all seen... example NCC.
