My parents have a cell phone, and it's always funny to see my mom or dad react when it rings. :lol: They can never figure out where the ringing is coming from, until they've missed the call. :lol:

When we call my dad on his cellphone, we always plan on it being a three call process. On the first call, he doesn't hear it at first, then denies that it's his phone ringing. On the call back, he wrestles with his pants pocket, trying to get the phone out in time...it never is. Finally, on the third call, he's ready and waiting for you -- but by then, you've forgotten why you called.

I feel lost and deserted without mine or if someone is on a trip and doesn't have it on.

My grandparents have 1, but they barely know how to use it. I have had to teach them to push the green button, the red botton to stop talking, and I programed their speed dial and typed it very small and taped it to the back of their phone so they don't have to look up numbers, because that is WAY to complicated. They havenever had a computer, so I do understand their lack of experience with technology.

I do not have a land-line currently, but when the wife and I purchase a home I intend on having one for safety/911 purposes.

Five cell phones plus the land line. Like Mr Network, LBBC and others have pointed out, the advent of the cell phone was a Godsend for those of us with multiple children playing multiple sports. Later, as each began driving, it represented peace of mind. Now, it allows me the freedom to be away from my family with the realization that I'm only a phone call away even while I'm in the woods or on the golf course. I very seldom use my phone for casual conversations but I can't imagine now how we got along without it.

 

BTW, I'm old enough and rural enough to recall when a majority of our neighbors would come to our house to use the phone.

Interesting. Mike McConnell addressed that very issue this weekend and your contention in his view is incorrect.

 

Accidents have been on a DOWNWARD trend, according to him, for the past 5 or 6 years.

 

If cell phones and talking on them while driving was such an cause of accidents, it would only make logical sense that more accidents would be occurring as more and more people GET cellphones.

 

But in reality, the opposite is actually going on. The roads are getting safer and safer despite your contention that these new gadgets are making roads unsafe.

I respect those opinions but I just can't see how, people talk on those things and loose all sense of what they are doing in driving. Pay more atttention to the phone than on the road. JMO from a lot that have seen.

 

But, they have it for emergencies, which lately seem to be increasing. :creepy:

I would recommend getting one for emergencies for either you or your wife while you are driving. You can get a cell phone pretty cheap without all of the bell's and whistle's. My Mom has one!

I agree and believe that I will. Thanks for your's and rockmom's imput about the emergency factor, our own cvillecat has been trying to get me to get one for quite a while now.

My grandmother used to spend hours listening in on other's phone calls, which she could do because they were on a party line. :lol: She would get so caught up, she'd start talking and that was when things really got interesting. :lol:

I think now they call that reality tv.

I have one, my wife has one and my youngest son has one, we also have a land line . I still have a CB Radio too . My daughter has one and so does her fiancee' ,they have a land line also , My daughter-in -law has one , my oldest son has a personal cell phone , one from his law firm , a blackberry from his law firm a land line at home and two at the office , and I still can't get in touch with him sometimes . The only person in my immediate family that does not have a cell phone yet is my granddaughter , but that is because she is only 10 weeks old . Give her time . We all have mulitple E-mail addresses too . Ain't technology grand !!!
