Not at this high of a level. And even at a smaller track like Turfway or River Downs I think it is rare.

When it comes to horse racing, the guys on the back can normally tell who's not going to win the race. I had heard from Robby Albarado that he felt there was no way that Big Brown was going to win this race, and I doubted him greatly. I called Paul Rogers right after the race and asked what he thought, or had heard. He said he thought it was a mixture of maybe bleeding, and they said that Big Brown likely got kicked by another horse, and didn't take well to that at all.

 

Now, for Dutrow and IEAH, they had a HUGE dose of bad karma coming their way. I was hoping it would've been with another horse. The sport needed Big Brown to come through yesterday. All is not lost, he can still out some heat on Curlin' later on this year. I hope they race them against each other. I will ALWAYS root for a horse to win the Triple Crown if he/she comes to the Belmont with a chance.

And this just confirms my thoughts that all horse racing is fixed.

I knew him starting on that inside post wasn't good for him. Horse probably felt a little trapped and didn't like it which is why you could see it jerking it's head so much early on. Nobiz...I felt the same way going through the first turn, I said, "That it didn't look good". Thought he might kick and turn it on, but it didn't happen.

 

Has the trainer giving an interview yet? I haven't paid much attention to TV.

I'm with you, RP. I want to see a triple crown in the worst way...I love seeing history made. Same reason I wanted to see NE pull off the 19-0 season...

 

But, I digress. I certainly wasn't a fan of Dutrow's actions, but I still wanted to see Big Brown pull it off. I thought he was the best horse and the field wasn't great, but I always feel like the odds are stacked against a horse winning all three of these races. It seems like it's very hard for a horse to string together three winning performances in 5 or 6 weeks (whatever it is).

 

Whether that is due to breeding practices that stress speed over endurance, breeding that makes them more brittle, drugs, etc...I don't know. But, it just doesn't happen anymore. I really thought Barbaro had a great shot at the TC before he went down.

 

Big Brown was very impressive in every race before the Belmont. Not only had he won them all, but they weren't even competitive. For whatever reason, he just didn't have it at the Belmont. I think we have to remember that we're talking about an animal here...they're subject to have bad or "off" days just like people. Perhaps that's all it was...

 

I don't know what they'll do, but I just can't see him racing anymore. There's no reason for it. He dominated the first two races of the TC more than any horse I've ever seen...his legacy is set and he's going to net them a fortune in stud fees. Racing him again can only hurt.

The trainer and owner have both said some things. They say they can not find anything wrong with the horse and dont know why he didn't have it yesterday. To me, that is scary. Something is wrong with the horse and if they dont detect it soon it could only worsen. I remember a few years ago, the great sprinter Lost in the Fog had won like 11 straight races and suddenly ran dead last in a race. A few months later a tumor was found but it was to late and he had to be euthanized shortly after.

As long as trainers breed and train for speed and not endurance and until the Triple Crown tracks go to a synthetic surface, we may never see another Triple Crown winner. It will take someone outside the current box to train a Triple Crown winner

I actually predict that the next Triple Crown winner we have will be a european horse. They're bred for the distance in the Belmont.

Agreed. It's certainly "sound bite" material. This horse doesn't deserve what people are saying. I suspect it's a combination of Dutrow's brashness and the early comparisons to Secretariat. I simply think he's worn down by the 3 races in 5 weeks without having a few more races under his belt. I've always heard that you can't have ANY setbacks and win a triple crown race, let alone all three.

No sense in racing BB anymore...stands to lose more money than he can gaining it...send him off to stud.

 

A couple of questions....which I think attributed to the performance today.

Why take him off the steroids for this race? He was on the juice the first two, why not for the Belmont?

 

Secondly...very warm in NY today...internal bleeding is another.

 

I think jockey did a very wise thing in pulling up...he was fading and fading quick.

According to ESPN he hadn't had a dose of Winstrol since April.

One thing that is very clear from the detractors in this thread is that they know very little about the sport of horse racing.
