The last democratic president balanced the budget and now that has been reversed, so I am not too thrilled with where republican leadership has led us in that category.

 

Remember, he had a republican congress in order to do it. Do you recall Clinton's first 2 years? I believe government works best when split up. Reagan & the democrats, Clinton and the republicans. When the power is concentrated on the same side for too long the country seems to suffer.

I agree with you on the bolded part.

While I don't care for any of the candidates, I do recognize nWo's excitement as geniune and understandable. While not an Obama fan (to say the least), the fact that one of our 2 major parties has nominated an African American candidate speaks volumes as to how far we have come in the past 40+ years. We are far from over the mountain, but we can at least see the peak and that is an enormous achievement. There is no way I can truly feel the joy that nWo feels, but do feel a sense of pride that we have at least moved forward enough to see this monumental achievement in our society.

 

However, on the other side, I am a conservative, but don't see a candidate who truly speaks to me and that I believe in right now. Unless something drastic changes, I will be voting for McCain. However, it is simply because I believe he has more experience than Obama and actually has concrete ideas on what we need to do, especially on our foreign policies. I believe that McCain has the experience and a better understanding of what we are facing and not just some ideals that could bankrupt our nation.

 

I remember hearing Nancy P standing up and telling us that with the democrats in control of congress, we would see gas prices stop going up and that they had solutions. Two years later, I am seeing gas prices at an all time high, I am seeing bills introduced to tax power companies into raising rates (which will be at least 50%-60% higher in the next 5 years), refusing to allow new more efficient coal fired plants to be built, but instead mandating taxes on the current less efficient ones, and our economy in a downturned state. Democrats blame Bush, Republicans blame congress, but really, ... they are both to blame. Democrats for refusing to really investigate and understand the options and Bush for not forcing the issues that need to be forced.

 

I am disgusted by our politicians, and don't relish voting for any of them right now. However, I have seen the impact that Pelosi and her buddies have had on our country, and that scares me into voting for at least someone who has proven that he can work with both sides of the aisle and maybe, ... just maybe, ... get something positive done in Washington for a change. I really hate that I am voting for maybe instead of what I believe is a sure fire bet, but that, IMHO, is what we are left with.

So anyone know where the best place in Canada to move to is? If what math just said is 100% accurate I plan to relocate there around November.... I figure if I am going to live in a county with numbers of enemies and a millitary that is about to be stripped, I might as well live somewhere where my tax money will be kept within the country and not in Africa.

 

So what do you all think? Prince Edward Island, British Columbia, or Manitoba?

How can you say one leads to the other. Certainly you don't equate Jimmy Carter with Bill Clinton, do you? Richard Nixon and Bush 1 with Ronald Reagan? I don't like McCain but he certainly has had enough fights with the republican's over the years that I believe he would lead differently than Bush has.

You are right , again. One of, if not the biggest concern, of the the Founding Fathers was that of one branch of government having too much power, hence separation of powers, checks & balances,etc... Also, Madison in Federalist#10 was concerned with the power of factions. I think we see today way too much influence yielded by powerful factions known as lobbyists.

Just because the thought of an Obama/Clinton ticket scares the you know what out of me, any legally registered voter has the right to vote for them. They may win in November, but I guarantee you, they will not win in Kentucky. The majority of voters here believe in taking home what we earn at work, believe a marriage is between a man and a woman, are anti-abortion, etc, etc.

I didn't say that I served in any branch of the military because I didn't. However, that doesn't make me any less of an American or any less entitled to my own opinion or have any less reason to be proud of my family members that did.
