June 5, 200818 yr I feel you! What African Americans would be qualified? In my opinion Colin Powell has been a prime canidate for many years.Colin Powell, Condi Rice, J. C. Watts, Harold Ford, Jr., and Charles Rangel for starters. There are no Democratic African-Americans for whom I would consider voting - they are all way too liberal for my tastes - but there are much more qualified and experienced candidates.

June 5, 200818 yr There was a time that I would have gladly voted for Condoleeza Rice. However, as time has worn on, and she has been in the position of Secretary State, I have since lost my faith in her. Everyone on the "right" says they'd vote for her, but why? What has she accomplished? If merely attaining the position of Secretary of State is it, that says nothing to me. What has she accomplished in that role? Here are a list of some: She reopened nuclear negotiations with North Korea, even authorizing bilateral talks, which George W. Bush had adamantly refused to conduct all through his first term as president. She persuaded Bush to endorse similar (if less promising) negotiations that Britain, France, and Germany had initiated with Iran, which he had also vigorously opposed. She crafted the terms of a United Nations resolution to investigate war crimes in Sudan, a measure that first-term Bush had resisted. She dropped the campaign—which had been launched with great verve by Vice President Dick Cheney—to replace Mohamed elBaradei as chair of the International Atomic Energy Agency and then got U.S. intelligence agencies to resume briefing IAEA officials, a practice that had also been discontinued in the first term. As a prerequisite to all the above accomplishments, she staved off Cheney's intense efforts to appoint his protege, John Bolton, as deputy secretary of state and implicitly acknowledged Bolton's unsuitability for a concession prize—U.N. ambassador—by assuring Democratic opponents that he would be carefully "supervised." (Source: Slate.com) But, is her power in getting Bush to compromise? Or is she benefitting by giving Bush a way to save face in backing off his original stands by saying she convinced him? I am just nor as sure as I used to feel about her abilities to lead the country.
June 5, 200818 yr ^I never said that I would vote for Rice or Powell. It would depend on who else ran for the nomination. Neither are anywhere near the top of my presidential wish list, but neither is John McCain. However, both Rice and Powell are much more qualified in terms of experience and background to serve as president. Obviously, the only qualification that counts is to win a general election for the presidency. Hopefully a majority of voters will begin to see Obama as I see him and disqualify him with their votes.
June 5, 200818 yr How someone can be proud of a party that feels it is acceptable in our society to kill unborn children and then call that a GREAT TIME is beyond my understanding. My definition is not a party that feels it is acceptable in our society to kill 3500 unborn children each day. Amen. My wife works at a crisis-pregnancy center (as a counselor), and EVERY DAY she has to help "pick up the pieces" of women who make this TRAGIC mistake.

June 5, 200818 yr I refuse to let a "social ill" determine my evaluation of a candidate's ability to lead the country. It is the responsibility of each of us as a citizen to effect change in that arena. The legislation is what it is. What we need to do is to work to eliminate the "need" for that option. THAT is what will change the choice between "pro-life" and "pro-choice". And, it's within our power to do so.

The German word Mensch literally means person. People were labelled "untermensch" as a way to justify KILLING them. After all, they aren't really human, they are "sub-human".
