Track the Reds (Week 10)

True, but he is the one who inserts the players in certain situations and continues to hit Patterson at the top and Griffey in the third slot.

So you're blaming tonights loss on Patterson, who was on the bench the entire game? Also, name me one manager who wouldn't hit Griffey third on this team.

I'm not talking about one night. I'm talking about the entire body of work. Is there anyone who thinks the Reds would have a higher winning percentage had they not signed him? I do. I think Bruce would have been up sooner. And I think there are several managers who would drop Griffey to #5 or #6. You'll find them atop the standings. Why not hit Hairston first, Phillips second, Bruce third, Dunn fourth, and Grifffey fifth? Hairston and Phillips have speed. Bruce makes contact and gets on base and Dunn and Griffey have the chance to knock them in.

How many teams hit lefties 3, 4, 5? Any???

Maybe you missed it, but the entire body of work is still months away. The Rockies were pretty impressive in the stats you want to focus on. Where were they after their awful start last year???

I've said before that I wouldn't have brought up Bruce any sooner than they did and i'll stick with that. They gave him a chance to be successful and that's exactly what he's doing. Brandon Phillips is not a number 2 hitter. He just doesn't put the ball in play enough. I do think he has the ability, but he tries to do to much. The way you described Bruce makes him a perfect number 2 hitter. Puts the ball in play and gets on base for the heart of the order. How many games have the Reds won with Bruce hitting number 3 this year? I'll answer that...one out of 4. Thats not exactly a good percentage.

The Braves do against rightys. The Padres did against the Reds I think.

Two of the braves hitters are switch hitters....Not exactly the same thing

Nothing? That's what I figured...

Chippy tonight:D

Not in rare form, but close...

What are your thoughts about the club as is?

Much farther along than it has been in at least a decade. Dan O' and Wayne did some great work outside of actually constructing a short term roster built from mostly scraps.

The more I look in to things, the more I don't think it's an accident that Dunn and Alonso have the same agent. Not sure which way that swings the fence yet, but there's smoke there.

There is a serious upgrade in talent on the pitching staff, and the offensive side of things is still left up for grabs.

For the night, I'll leave you with this. I feel better about this franchise now than I did in any of the random years they started hot only to be off the radar by late July. Where it goes from there is still wide open for debate...

I don't really understand why anyone can be that upset by tonights loss. They didn't play perfect, but were in the spot they wanted to be. They hit your best pitcher's good pitch. It seems like most years these kind of games even out. Sometimes it even seems like the Reds get more W's than L's in tonights fashion...

The W's and L's do seem to even out in this fashion but if they win the game tonight it puts them in an excellent position to possibly have a winning road trip, and that would be huge for this ball club. Now they've got some work to do just to go back home 4-4 on the trip.

The 1-3 trip in Philly is to blame for that...
