June 8, 200818 yr Are you really going to harp on 25 out of 1000? With that said I really liked the Reds picking up Cody Ross, and though they let go a pretty solid player in a numbers crunch when he was sent away. Always stings a little harder when it's a guy you knew could help out when he was brought in... When did the Reds have Ross? They let him go and signed Patterson?

June 8, 200818 yr They are hitting 25 points higher with risp and two outs. You have to get the runners home. It extends innings, makes pitchers throw more pitches, etc. I know that sounds too obvious, but that's what separates winners and losers. That and bullpens. Can I get your link? I'd like to check it out. Nevermind. I looked myself

I think the Reds have other pressing needs before they worry about addressing hitting with RISP. They are in the upper portion of runs scored and have been for years. They need more consistant pitching, which is coming with the young arms. One or two bullpen moves being made couldn't hurt, and a solid catcher.

June 8, 200818 yr If you could narrow it down more you spend a lot of time guessing wrong... No I wouldn't. They don't hit well with risp and their bullpen is shaky outside their closer. A lefty in the rotation wouldn't hurt but that's more Jocketty's job than Dusty's job.
June 8, 200818 yr It's not really Dusty's fault that their bullpen is shaky or they can't hit with RISP either.

They hit well tonight in the situations you claim to be key, and they lost on a HR by a former teammate on a pretty solid pitch. If you chase numbers you think make all the difference and end up wrong 75% of the time or 79% of the time, you won't have a job long...
June 8, 200818 yr It's not really Dusty's fault that their bullpen is shaky or they can't hit with RISP either. True, but he is the one who inserts the players in certain situations and continues to hit Patterson at the top and Griffey in the third slot.

If we go by what he's saying they didn't do the job by getting the runs in. A lot of the damage came on errors so that goes against your AVG w/ RISP.:sssh:
