They mentioned the UFC numerous times. And then I believe they said that if Smith beat Lawler, he'd be in the top of the middleweight ranks among Anderson Silva, Cung Le and Frank Shamrock. First of all, Neither Le or Shamrock or Lawler are anywhere near the level of Anderson Silva. He'd destroy all of them quickly. And if Smith would have won, that wouldn't have put him anywhere near Silva either. I'm not sure these guys knew what they were talking about. Then after round 2 ended in the Kimbo/Thompson fight, one of the announcers asked how the others had the fight scored. One replied with "I have no idea". I'm sitting there thinking... Really? Thompson just controlled the first round on the ground, and dominated the 2nd round. Anyone with eyes knows Thompson was winning going into the third round.

The announcers said it perfectly when they talked about how Lawler won his first two fights in the UFC, but then dropped 3 out of the next 4 and was released. After that he signed with EliteXC and dominated. Wonder why? Because the talent level isn't there. He's good, but he wouldn't be a title contender in the UFC's 185 division. Cung Le hasn't fought anyone really good thus far. He has beat Frank Shamrock, but Frank Shamrock isn't what he used to be.

Kimbo losing would have been bad for them. They know they were disappointing some of the hardcore MMA fans, but their goal is to capture the mainstream. This was my first time watching MMA. I thought the 4th fight was actually pretty good. But they ended everything quickly because it was on a network, whereas normally they would them fight (according to what Jayson said, because I've never seen it). Typical quality (of fighting) vs. quantity (of viewers)- the give up one, you lose the other. They (Elite XC) made IMO a good business decision.

I think a lot of casual viewers walked away wondering what all the fuss was about. My whole family gets together to watch boxing matches big and small, and since it was my mothers birthday yesterday we were all gathered at my parents and decided to tune in. The fights were all universally panned around the room with the exception of the women's bout which was entertaining and showcased skill and power. You know the producers were upset, CBS gave up a lot of advert time (notice how long they went between commercials) and MMA failed to deliver. It was a bad night for increasing the fanbase of MMA and for convincing TV execs that the sport belongs in every living room.

It was a good business decision to have the fight showcased on CBS, but it turned out very poorly. Anyone with eyes could see that last night was not that impressive. It was a poor showing from the dancers, to Bustah Rhymes to the fights. EliteXC ha nothing to do with the stoppages, as the refs and doctors are employed by the New Jersey State Athletic Commission. But it sure seems fishy that the Kimbo fight was stood up with Thompson in a dominant position on the ground, landing elbows. Also seems fishy that they won't stop it when Thompson lands numerous unanswered punches/elbows to the face, but they stop it for 2 or 3 straight unanswered punches on the feet for Kimbo. Very weird.

EliteXC set MMA back a year or two at least. The UFC will benefit short term and possibly long term. I'm sure that CBS, or any other network channel, will think twice before turning the UFC away and accepting another organization to show on their network. The UFC is guaranteed to show pretty good MMA action, while not many other organizations can say that. People don't have to tune in to a PPV to see the UFC. The UFC airs numerous live events for FREE on Spike TV. June 1, 200818 yr Kimbo and Brett Rogers got into a little argument during the press conference :lol:. Rogers said Kimbo's fight was "garbage" and that he "tapped out". Kimbo stood up and then everyone got in between them to prevent a fight. I'd love to see EliteXC feed Kimbo to Rogers in his next fight. Rogers KO'd Thompson in very short time, he'd do the same to Kimbo most likely. Video of Presser...argument takes place around 7 or 8 minutes in.
