Chad Merida to Transfer

Featured Replies

The former South Laurel running back has transfered to Knox Central. This is the same kid who excelled at the Nike Sparq Combines.

Very interesting...will he sit out this year? or is this a "legitimate" move not based on football reasons? The talk in another thread was about how he would not get the exposure he neeeded to be majorly recruited because of SL's pass happy system.

He will sit out. Too much was made of his needing to transfer for athletic purposes.

If this is true, (for athletic reasons) I don't think it was smart on his part. Sitting out a year wont make you better.

I guess we will have to see what happens. I hate to see this talented kid miss a year of high school ball he will never get back.

I don't believe that South Laurel's offensive scheme would adversely effect his recruitment. Their offense utilizes the RB very effectively both running and receiving............plus if you have talent the recruiters will find you.

Where does he live and does he plan on moving. These answers will determine his eligibility.

I don't think he will have to sit out a year, his dad lives in knox county while his mom lived in laurel and he is just going to move in with his dad. As long as their was a legitimate change of address he will not have to sit a year, no matter what the reason for moving is.

However, there has to be a legitimate reason for the change of address. I hope the kid doesn't have to miss a year. He is very talented.

Exactly. A change of address does not make you eligible!!! It has been widely reported that this kid was looking for a while, so that makes it even harder to prove it is not for sports.

I know a kid that did the same thing last year and he was ruled inelgible and had to sit out.

There are many instances where a kid was living with mother/father/family in one county and moves in with father/mother/family in another county and is ruled ineligible. There are many complications that make moves like this difficult situations for everyone involved; the kid, the school the kid is leaving and the school the kid is trying to go to.

Proving that the move was not for "Athletic Purposes" is difficult. Sometimes it is harder to prove the truth that to disprove false accusations.

Excellent point from a masked hero!!! :thumb:

His eligibility will really depend on South Laurel. If they don't fight it, he should be ruled eligible. This is a similar situation to Nate Edmondson of Gallatin Co a few years ago.

He lived with his mom in Taylor Mill but attended Holmes because his mother worked for the Covington schooling system and after his junior year he moved in with his dad in Gallatin co and was ruled eligible because Holmes didn't fight the transfer.

Chad to KC was a done deal long before success at the NIKE camps.

It would not have mattered if he came in 1st or last, he was leaving to live with his Dad.

His Dad got custody this year and let him stay at SL through the school year.

Both parents are originally from Barbourville.

Father would have got custody earlier, but Iraq kept it from happening.

Legitimate move across the board and SL is letting it go through.

Talked to his father about 6 hours ago.

There is no conspiracy here.

No athletic move.

The kid has wanted to live with his Dad for years and it has not panned out, but has finally happened.

He has lived in Barbourville since school got out.

Chad's entire family, except for his mother, live in the Knox county area for the most part.
