To compete with big physical teams like Belfry and Russell this is imperative, just as it was at Rock to be ready for Bell. All that speed Harlan has doesn't mean diddly squat if you are physically exhausted... Larkey knows what the meal ticket to advance late in the year is, he is going to turn that program into something special eventually.:thumb:

Overall team speed went to Harlan County. Overall Harlan County had more athletes than any team down there. That is why I am saying, give Larkey some more time with these kids and they will only get better and its really up to the kids as to how good they want to be. Several kids stood out from each corner of the county but I will not name names because I will forget someone.

 

 

Although none of the teams are speed merchants. Speed will not be the name of the game with Larkey anyway. Toughness and deffense will be!!!

I know how fast the 2000 thru 2002 teams were from Rockcastle and how much that speed meant to getting to the State Championship and winning 40 games in 3 years in a tough 4A class. The overall team speed at Harlan County this year is almost double what the Rock had those years and some of the fastest players I've seen are running with the Bears this year. They just need to get stronger and stay tough, they can be something special. The good news for Harlan is that a lot of these kids are just juniors and I've heard the best classes ever are in the 6th-8th grades.

Yeah I get it, I meant they have double the amount of players that run faster than Rock had those years. Rock had Hale at WR, running a sub-par 4.4 and other than that they were probably only 3-4 others who ran under 5.0. But Rock was huge and smart up front on that O and D line.

I'm pretty confident the offense will have enough playmakers to be effective. A big key for me is how the players and coaches adjust to the new defensive system. Can that work as well as it did at Rockckastle, or at least fairly close to it?

Being able to run is the name of the game no matter what you are playing.

These boys are not only fast, but tough! You just about have to bring a baseball bat and a taser gun to take some of these youngins down. There's nothing like practicing in this July heat to put hair on their chest. I'm anxious to see this defense in action myself.

 

I guess right now is the time that coach Larkey and staff will find out WHO REALLY WANTS TO PLAY!

I was told Harlan County will scrimmage at Knox Central on Aug. 22 against Knox Central.

I can think of 4 kids that Harlan Co. will have that can run 4.6 to high 4.5. I have been saying it all summer long the Bears will have the most team speed in the mountains.

All hand. They each had 3 attempts, all those guys ran almost exact times against each other every time.

I got to sneak a peek today and I'd like to know what in the world they have been feeding those boys up the Cloverfork? Have Mercy!!! Our guys look so strong and healthy. I wish I new all their names. All I can say is, what a line!
