I don't know anything much about OJ's parents or that whole situation, but its sad when you have a young guy like that who is being taken advantage of so badly. We are talking about stuff that started in his early teens. Its a shame he didn't surround himself with people who care about him solely and not try to ride his coat tails to fame and fortune. I know of this happening (maybe not to this extent) way too much.

 

Mom is just as guilty as the rest, for letting the "uncle" do the parenting and considering all the rumors of how much money she took while he was in MS and HS, her act on ESPN is pathetic.

I am puzzled by OJ's response to the allegations. Especially the type of influence he describes his mentors to have had on him. I am not sure what that has to do with anything.

What exactly makes you think he needs to turn his life around? I've never heard anything bad about Mayo as a person...there are a lot of people who don't like him because of his basketball career. That says more about them than OJ, IMO.

 

If people want to play "holier than thou" and criticize him for accepting money or gifts, then have at it. I know when I was a teenager, or a freshman in college, I wouldn't have turned down a free meal, some free cash, or a 42" plasma television for my dorm room. Maybe that says more about me than anything...if it does, so be it.

 

The fact is, none of us can relate to what a guy like Mayo has gone through...being a child prodigy in basketball, all kinds of people trying to latch on and "mentor" him, which really means take advantage and get a payday from him. That's pretty high expectations of a teenager to expect them to be able to handle that like a profession and make the right decision all the time.

The "O.J. Pay O" act has been a circus from Jr. high. Started as a 7th grade jr. high kid living in West Virginia, playing in Kentucky then to go to Ohio, Was turned down at a Va. School (Oak Hill), back to Ohio and then back to West Virginia. Then to USC and to the home of the Pete Carroll Reality Co. and Reggie "Cash" Bush and now the Floyd lottery. (They don't call it La La land for nothing, lol)

 

I felt that originally that people (AAU coaches and others) were using this kid as a pawn.

I actually felt for the "kid", I do not feel for him now in that imo he knew exactly what he was doing. There comes a time and it definately came for Mayo that he was of age and old enough to make his own decisions. He made these decisions as an adult. Mayo and USC are to blame as well as some others involved in this.

One thing that amazes me is that Mayo has imo obviously took a deal for around 30K when he had millions waiting on him in the NBA. Great decision making there. I don't guess USC was ever known as an academic institution, LOL.

Mayo is innocent, the NCAA said that they heavily checked his amatuerism before he enrolled at USC and while he was at USC and seen no wrongdoing or any kind of violation while he was there.
