Shipping would stop, food shortages would happen, and car sales would be virtually nil. I can't see the government letting that happens. $3 and $10 a gallon is a ridiculously huge difference. Gvt is behind the whole debacle. They made sure they cut funding for research regarding Alt energy sources. The rich stay rich and the poor become homeless.

May 10, 200818 yr Will NEVER happen. 4 dollars is where Washington is considering stepping in, 4.50 is where they will finally step in. Plus Europe's economy is going to decline soon which will keep us from 5.00 anyway. GOVT wants high prices to taper us off oil. They do NOT wanna see 1.10 gas, but they also don't wanna see it above 3.00 thats when our economy starts to take a real hit.
May 10, 200818 yr A friend was telling me last night that he heard somewhere that over the first quarter of this year, Shell pocketed something like $9.8 BILLION in PROFIT from gas prices being so high...Someone please explain to me why if they are pocketing that much, gas can't come down? Are you just now hearing about this? Exxon takes home over 10 billion a quarter. Exxon expected to make 11.5 billion this past quarter and came up short at around 10.5 and COMPLAINED. The big 4-5 oil companies combined made over 100 billion last year. Profits aren't good enough for them, it has to be record profits.

Have you been in Wal-mart's lately or stood in line at the gas station while people charge 50 dollars worth of gas and get 5 cartons of cigarettes. People will just keep charging gas,pay the minimum on their credit card, use Dubyas money(which if you have lots of children)is a major windfall and if they have to, file for bankrupcy and get food stamps and live better than me. There are four families in just my little neighborhood doing that exact thing. Every single restaurant in Maysville is packed on virtually every night of the week, gas will never be too high,just like cigarettes.

As hard as it may be at times. (...and here I thought getting out of fast food would make me LESS cynical about the world). No doubt these people are getting phased, they're just doing everything in their power not to appear that way... otherwise getting chicks gets drastically harder.
