Gillespie's only true signed recruit in 2 years?

Featured Replies

Possibly true, but the bottom line is, BCG worked at it...took advantage of an open position on his staff...made it work...shows willingness to make it work with assistant coaches.

OTS assistants were dogs and he was not willing to change it.

One example...OTS and staff were at a major AAU event...tall skinny kid is just killing, junior and senior to be.

OTS asks who this kid was..asks Rigot, didn't know, who asks Hanson who doesn't know...Hanson has to borrow a program and find out who the kid was.

Who was the kid? Kevin Durant. How could you possibly not know who Kevin Durant was as an underclassman? Easy...you didn't work at it.

Don't believe the story? The story was told by a writer who covers recruiting for a newspaper, and he was sitting behind UK staff at the event.

This would normally deserve a "Wow!" but I'm not really that surprised.

Another story I got was that Rigot went to a practice at a recruits high school and fell asleep in the stands...

It's tough to get kids these days unless you start on them their sophomore year or earlier.

Give the man time.

I appreciate the effort he gives in recruiting.

Fleming never made it to campus and evidently was never offered, was told he had to go to class(Flemings needs some summer school to qualify) and academics was very important...the day after BCG visits his school and talks to him, he skips class. BCG cuts ties, a few hours later he inks with Hawaii.

Pattilo was a spring attempt...long had been recruited by Oklahoma..

Mojak was a longshot from the get go, but gave it a heck of a ride.

Kecman, again a spring attempt.

Harrellson a spring attempt but have monitored him for a while...if they lose him it will be a blow.

Hopson never visited UK under BCG and they got in late with him. OTS is the one who butchered that whole deal. Screwed up his visit during junior year after not even recruiting him his entire sophomore year...tell me, how can an assistant at Texas be in on Hopson before OTS during a kid's sophomore year?

McCoydoesn't have a confirmed offer.

Sutton will come to UK if they offer.

Sanchez, staed close to home, whole family including siblings is at Arkansas

Lucas he really tried to get but lost out to Florida.

Hamba, who knows how all of that went down.

All I know is he outworked people for Miller, surprised many and nabbed Liggins who most had inked for Kansas.

Has gotten big time verbal from Ross-Miller, got Euton, Viliriano, and may get a verbal from a 2011 kid who many project will be a four/five star big man in Vinny Zollo who is in Thad Matta's backyard.

You can really start looking at the 09 class as real barometers of his success or lacketherof...because of time to establish relationships and so forth.

I have no real complaints at the moment.

It is a far cry from what we were used to over the last few years under OTS.

I expect Harrellson to commit to Kentucky tomorrow. :thumb:

The Herald-Leader reported today that he was hung up on the decision of whether to stay close to home and attend Saint Louis, or attend a tradition rich program like Kentucky. His family may end up being a big factor. It sounds like he wants them to be able to watch him play his college games, and his home town is about one hour from St. Louis.

Don't care what rationale anyone wants to use. BCG signed Patterson, Liggins, and Miller.

I just did. Good news!!:dancingpa

One thing I like at this point - we have Sutton if we want him. We can go after the PG and if that doesn't work out, we can take Sutton.

I also heard a similar story according to a scout that asked Durant about UK. Durant said that he wanted to take an official visit to UK but was never contacted by the coaching staff. I guess they can't contact you if they don't know who u are.:fight:

McCoy doesn't have an offer at this point...

I think BCG may go ahead and offer Sutton and call it a recruiting season.

I think McCoy will end up at UVa, b/c he doesn't have an offer per se.

Why is that?

Is it Galloway? Tubby, I believe started the ball rolling with Patterson and Miller, don't know about Liggins. Does anyone know for sure(not counting verbals) if Galloway and maybe Liggings were recruited from start to finish by Billy G only?

Add Harrellson to the mix.

There is no chance that Darius Miller would be here if Tubby was the coach.

I agree with this. But, I know that with assistant coach Tracy Webster had an impact with Miller signing with UK. If Webster would have stayed at Illinois I wouldn't have been surprised to see Darius there.

Billy G. will bring in the recruits.

Not surprised at this. Par for the course with the previous assistants.
