Here are my Exacta and my tri. I will box both.

Big Brown/Gayego/Colonel John exacta box.

Big Brown/Gayego/Colonel John/Pyro trifecta box

I'm also going to play Colonel John WPS, hoping to beat the "unbeatable" Big Brown.

Gotta love those that bet more than they could possibly win!

Just giving you some grief, you do your thing! Big Brown and Colonel John will be big time favorites come Saturday, IMO.

Trust me on this one, Pyro is a pretender.

Here's my question to you though, if you're going to do that tri, there is no reason to do the Exacta. Might as well just load up on the tri.

See what I mean?

Anyone could run 3rd in the Derby, though.

My advice would be to wheel the tri, like...

Big Brown, Colonel John , Pyro, Gayego/ Big Brown, Colonel John, Pyro, Gayego/ Big Brown Colonel John, Pyro, Gayego, with a few other horses.

That could get a bit costly, so you may want to look at only using 3 horses in first. I am a big believer in boxing is waisting your money when you could wheel and use more horses on the bottom. Its much easier to run 3rd then it is 1st. ;)

I might do a wheel. That makes much more sense. Thanks for the help! I just hope I can tell the person at the window correctly after 5-6 mint julips!:creepy::lol:

Right now I am looking at 5,9,10,20 on a tri box.

You going tomorrow?

Nah...no one to watch the kiddos, first time in a long time to miss.

My Picks

1-Big Brown

2-Pyro

3-Big Truck

1 Cool Coal Man Julien Leparoux Nick Zito 20-1

2 Tale of Ekati Eibar Coa Barclay Tagg 15-1

3 Anak Nakal Raphael Bejarano Nick Zito 30-1

4 Court Vision Garrett Gomez Bill Mott 20-1

5 Eight Belles (f) Gabriel Saez Larry Jones 15-1

6 Z Fortune Robby Albarado Steve Asmussen 15-1

7 Big Truck Javier Catellano Barclay Tagg 50-1

8 Visionaire Jose Lezcano Michael Matz 20-1

9 Pyro Shaun Bridgmohan Steve Asmussen 6-1

10 Colonel John Corey Nakatani Eoin Harty 4-1

11 Z Humor Rene Douglas Bill Mott 30-1

12 Smooth Air Manoel Cruz Bennie Stutts Jr. 20-1

13 Bob Black Jack Rich Migliore James Kasparoff 20-1

14 Monba Ramon Dominguez Todd Pletcher 15-1

15 Adriano Edgar Prado Graham Motion 30-1

16 Denis of Cork Calvin Borel David Carroll 20-1

17 Cowboy Cal John Velazquez Todd Pletcher 20-1

18 Recapturetheglory E.T. Baird Louie Roussel 20-1

19 Gayego Mike Smith Paulo Lobo 15-1

20 Big Brown Kent Desormeaux Rick Dutrow Jr. 3-1

I'm going with Pyro wps and keying a trifecta with him over Denis of Cork, Big Brown, Z Fortune and Recapturetheglory.

Right now I am looking at 5,9,10,20 on a tri box.

I thought you could only box 3 in a tri box(hence the name) and 2 in an exacta box. Is a straight trifecta bet or straight exacta bet cheaper than the box style bets? Someone explain all this to me, thanks.

You could box the entire field in an Exacta, it would just cost you way more than you could possibly win.

It is common for poeple to put 3 in Exacta or 4 in tri.

Boxing means the horses 3,4 or however many you have can come in any order as long as they are the first 3 or 4 or whatever it is you are betting.

It is also much more expensive to do this. If you do not box it you need to get them in the right order for the ticket to pay.

Make more sense?

So a $2 dollar straight exacta or straight trifecta bet would just cost 2 dollars, whereas a $2 exacta box bet with 3 horses would cost you $6. Am I right?

A $2 exacta box with 3 horses costs $12.

1-2

1-3

2-1

2-3

3-1

3-2

6 combinations time $2.

There are betters that each year box the entire field in a tri. Crazy, I know but they do it. Obviously the 2005 Derby paid well, but last year they would have lost mass.

The math on boxing the entire field in the Derby for a tri...
