April 23, 200818 yr No surprise, all of us that have followed the Reds have waited for this shoe to drop for quite a while. :thumb: IMO it should have happened quite while ago. The Reds with their worst start in 8 years and that is says a lot. We (Reds) haven't exactly been real impressive lately.
April 23, 200818 yr Krivsky was good at finding valuable players at practically no cost ... Brandon Phillips, Josh Hamilton and Jared Burton are fine examples of that. And there was also some bad moves ... the Kearns-Lopez-Majewski-Bray deal, some of the contracts that the Reds are stuck with (although some of them were probably inherited from the previous regime). And the hiring of Dusty ...
April 23, 200818 yr What will be some of the first moves Jocketty will make? Don't know but I don't look for any big improvement showing on the field right away. This team is BAD, very BAD and needs alot. JMO a very bad baseball team from top management all the way down. Changes imo have start at the top.
April 23, 200818 yr Jockety has a history of making big deals and going and getting guys in the middle of the season. This is a good move..
April 23, 200818 yr As someone who is a Reds fan, but does not follow it too closely it seemed he did some very good things as well as some utterly dumb things. Brandon Phillips was a huge get. Also, didnt he make the trade to get Cuerto and Volquez?

April 23, 200818 yr Cueto was brought in by Dan O'Brien... Thanks for clearing that up. I was not arguing, just wondering about that.
April 23, 200818 yr Thanks for clearing that up. I was not arguing, just wondering about that. No worries. O'Brien had a lot of the same pluses and minuses as Krivsky. Both did a world of help in finally infusing the organization with young talent, and both were very poor in structuring and selecting major leage contracts...
April 23, 200818 yr He was an IFA wasn't he? Not a trade? Yes. Got him straight from the Dominican...

And there was also some bad moves ... the Kearns-Lopez-Majewski-Bray deal, some of the contracts that the Reds are stuck with (although some of them were probably inherited from the previous regime). And the hiring of Dusty ... If Bray alone continues his pitching this season at the big league level, the trade was well worth it. Kearns was hitting .212 and Lopez .256; Kearns was like Adam Dunn and didn't hit with Runners in Scoring Position and didn't have Dunn's power. Lopez was average.
April 23, 200818 yr I would have to say this team is not terrible by any means! It needs work obviously, but there are many teams in MLB that need that. I love this move, makes no sense to not have done it before the season when every person that follows baseball knew this would happen! I think we see a trade or two before it is all said and done. W/Harang, Cueto, Volquez, and Arroyo the pitching is not to bad. Arroyo needs to be better for sure, but he will eventually eat up some innings for you. W/playing as bad as we have, we haven't really gotten to see our new closer get to do much! I think Dusty can push the right buttons and we could move in the right direction. Needs to be more consistency by the entire team and franchise!
April 23, 200818 yr If Bray alone continues his pitching this season at the big league level, the trade was well worth it.Not quite. Krivsky could have gotten more for Kearns and Lopez than he actually did ... he overreacted to a problem and made a short-term deal that didn't work. One other move in Krivsky's favor ... Wily Mo Pena for Bronson Arroyo.
April 23, 200818 yr Krivsky could have gotten more for Kearns and Lopez than he actually did ... Such as? Leather Pants is one of the few people in baseball that valued either...
