April 17, 200818 yr how much can the Bengals fine him? In other words, if he doesn't show for mandatory work outs how much and how fast can they find him? Can they fine him 10K a day? 1 million a day?

Can they fine him 10K a day? 1 million a day? I think the Max for not showing up at Training Camp is like $14,000 a day. I say fine him the max they are allowed.

April 17, 200818 yr He can "retire" and they can't charge him a thing. He'd have to fill out all the paperwork to do that.
April 17, 200818 yr He can "retire" and they can't charge him a thing. Correct, but he would still be under contract to the Bengals and unable to play for anyone else until that contract expires. So either way, he won't be getting any money from the Bengals.

April 17, 200818 yr Here's your answer though, thanks to the Dayton Daily News. Johnson faces a $5,100 fine — $1,700 per day — if he skips the June 12-14 minicamp. If he holds out of training camp when the team convenes at Georgetown College in July, the fines get steeper. "Unexcused late reporting for absence from preseason training camp, by a player under contract, the maximum fine is $14,000 per day," NFL Players Association spokesman Carl Francis said.
April 17, 200818 yr And fining him is going to make him want to come to camp? This is going to get ugly.
April 17, 200818 yr Author Those amounts are nearly useless as leverage against someone making as much money as Chad.
April 17, 200818 yr I think in the end, Chad reports to training camp and the Bengals move forward! There is NO-WAY I trade the guy! Make him sit out if that is what he really wants to do, do not give into his demands at all! EGO-Chad might be brought back to Earth by Financial-Chad when all the dust settles! Very few places will he be able to go and have a QB like Carson Palmer throwing him the football. Don't throw your QB out in front of the bus, SHUT up and play!

Yeah, since he's so hard up for cash....
April 17, 200818 yr I agree in fining him whatever the max amount is and for as long as I could. I would also let him sit out if need be for as long as need be. Let his skills diminish from not working out and sitting around being is what now his prima dona jerk self. C.J. has become like so many pros now in all sports. These guys have the world by ......well, you know and have absoluely NO respect for authority or anyone else in any sense of the word. So jmo, shoud Mr. Chad (T.O.) Johnson show up for work, he will get paid and if he doesn't, he won't. These guys want to say it is a business, they are 100% correct......they are an employee and not the employer, the employer should tell them what to do and not the opposite! :madman:.Chad Johnson has proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that he is just another example of what is wrong with professional sports. I watched an interview with Cal Ripken on ESPN's First Take program this morning, he was talking about his "Iron Man" streak that imo will NEVER be broken by anyone. Ripken said that he came up with the mindset that he was a player and not the coach/manager. That it was not up to him to say whether or not that he played, that was the managers job, his job was to play and he loved the game so he wanted to play and he played as hard as he could everytime out and was thankful for the opportunity. Ripken also stated that in his mind it was not an option to walk in and say, I am just about 75-80% today and I think that I will take this one off. Again, Ripken said that was the coaches job to ask him and to tell him whether or not to play or not to play......period. These teams trainers can tell and advise the coaches on their opinion on the condition, whatever it may be and then a decision will be made by the coach or manager. Just a final thought on imo what message mangement should send..............Chad, we are not going to trade you unless we want to. (C.J.) is the employee and not the employer. Sit out and go nowhere, that is your choice. We will see what your skills are like and how they dinminish by not playing/working out for a year or more. Go to your room and pout, we don't care! From now on I will refer to his initials "C.J." as "C"lassic "J"erk. This is just another one of my "soap box" subjects and I have went on and on again so I will stop.
