I'm with you 98...before I even opened the thread to see the options, the first name that popped in my head was Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat.

Me, too.

Rhodes and Race are close 2nds. But Ricky the Dragon.

This one put the Dragon on the wrestling map. It was one of his first big-time matches and was for the mid-atlantic TV title. I remember coming off the couch at my granny's at the end of this one.

It was up,up, and away for the Dragon after this one...

He had incredible matches with Greg Valentine for the US belt. Roddy Piper, Magnum TA, Nikita Koloff in the NWA. Randy Savage in the WWF and Carlos Colon in WWC. I guess that is why is is so great, who didn't he have great matches with?
Now these are the guys I remember!

When I first watched wrestling, it scared the heck out of me! And a big part of that was from watching Ric Flair get into these big fights and (invariably) ending up with a bloody forehead. And the blood showed up especially well with all that long blonde hair.

Did he ever have a match with Dick the Bruiser, the Iron Sheik or Bobo Brazil?

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (AP) -- Bobo Brazil, the pro wrestler famous for giving his opponents the "coco butt" by smashing his head into theirs, has died. He was 74.

Brazil, whose real name was Houston Harris, was a star in the 1960s and '70s. He was named professional wrestler of the year from 1967-72. He lived in Benton Harbor.

Brazil died Tuesday at Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph. He had been in the hospital since Jan. 14 after suffering a series of strokes, companion Doris Rainey said.

Brazil wrestled in many of the largest venues: New York's Madison Square Garden, the Boston Garden and Detroit's Cobo Arena.

Wrestling fans watched him on television as he battled stars such as Dick The Bruiser, The Sheik, Killer Kowalski, Haystacks Calhoun and Johnny Valentine.

Brazil was inducted into the World Wrestling Federation Hall of Fame in 1994.

"He was sort of an idol because there were no black wrestlers around back then," the Rev. Donald Adkins told The Herald-Palladium this week. "Everybody loved him, especially the kids."

Brazil was born in Little Rock, Ark., but grew up in East St. Louis, Ill., and Benton Harbor. He owned Bobo's Grill in Benton Harbor for more than 20 years and had six children.

 That's really funny! That is my vote too.

Bobo Brazil later in his career against Big John Studd. The match took place at the Spectrum in Philly and yes, that's Vinny Mac at the mic.

Imagine if there was just one big corporation like there is now back then. Would Hogan have gotten as popular as he did with Flair around? Would those two have become the greatest rivalry of all time in having many years of being able to be rivals. I know I always wanted to see it when I was younger and they were in the two separate companies.

Thanks, these were great!

When my father was football coach at Rock Hill High School around 1960, Bobo, The Sheik and Dick the Bruiser were there. I was 6-7 years old and Dad took me into the dressing room to meet all of them. The Sheik squatted down in front of me and yelled. I jumped back and my Dad reached down with his left hand and lifted him up and pinned him against the locker. He said, "Don't scare my boy". The Sheik said, Sorry Coach, and that was the end of it. My father played for the Steelers in the late 40's and was extremely strong. They all signed a football for me.

Is this the same guy that was The Iron Sheik in the 80's?

Loved reading all of this.

I was a huge wrestling fan growing up of the NWA and WCW and WWF. Watching Gordon Solie and his interviews on TBS w/Magnum TA and Dussy Rhoades--haha--and Nikita Koloff against the Four Horseman!

Saturday morning wrestling w/Lance Russell and Dave Brown w/Jerry "The KING" Lawler, Bill Dundee, Tommy "Wildfire" Rich, The Fabulous Ones, The Rock-n-Roll Express. Just to name a few!

Plus, all the Monday night wars!

Is this the same guy that was The Iron Sheik in the 80's?

I don't know for sure. But, at 53 years old I still remember this event well.:D
