He will be a lotto pick, but no way in my mind he goes in the top 5. Beasley, Rose, Gordan, Brook Lopez, are all going before him IMO.

IMO, he isnt a lottery pick. NBA teams would rather have a big man or a player that can take over the game and right now OJ isnt that man.

Who cares? Ever since about freshman year in high school Mr Mayo has always been on his way "to the next place" when he just got to the current place.

 

All of these college guys wanting to leave early and go to the NBA makes me appreciate the Davidsons and Western Kentuckys that much more.

There is that, and EVERYBODY is saying he is an easy top 10 pick. Like it or not, Mayo is a talent and will go high. Way too much potential. You get a kid that is 6'5 that can shoot, jump, handle, D, etc like he does and he is going to go high.

I have seen OJ play several times and he never really took over any games in college with a team that has maybe 1 to 2 superstars... Now if he goes up against a team that has 5 superstars on the floor, I dont see how he can change... To many turnovers and if he is 6'5 then I am 7'0....

Mayo will be a good NBA player, his game was NBA ready out of high school.

Selfish? He played PG his whole life until this year he split time there. I dont know if I'd call OJ's style of play selfish. He can create shots for himself and had to on a lot of occasions in the past, but he is always good for setting someone else up as well.

 

One, no way was this kid (or man at 20yo) selfish. Two, he never played PG in his career.

 

He was so reminiscent of a mature baskebtall player from an offensiver perspective, it wasn't funny. He did what the greats of the game did his entire year at USC. The first half, he was non-existent with his offensive game, prefering to get his players involved in the offense instead. This was MJ personafied. MJ never won until his players stpped watching him, and could be counted on to make a shot in the 4thQ when MJ would be triple teamed. OJ amazingly picked that up at an early age. Watching him a NCH for 3 years, he was amazing at this. Bill Walker would always get his points in the 1st half, then it was the OJ show in the 3Q. The same happened at USC. However, OJ's teamates were so young, it never quite worked as well, and made OJ not appear to be all that inspired.

 

As for PG, OJ has played the 2-3 in HS & AAU basketball ever since his Freshman year in HS. Damon Butler was his PG during those years. The PG for his Huntington HS team wasa D1 PG in college. OJ was told that because of his size, 6-3, not the reported 6-5, he would have a better game in the NBA at the 1. This year was the first year that he took over the point. It did affect his scoring ability, which is why you saw them take the ball out of his hands at the end of the season at USC. At the end of the year, OJ was back to the 2 position, which is what he will ultimately play in the NBA.

 

Which will be this coming year. OJ's game will be much better suited in the NBA. The comparison's to Kobe and Labron are a little off. he will not dominate the game like either of those two players, but he will make a lot of $$$'s at the next level.

Beasley and Rose, yes...the draft order will play a factor as well. If a team needs a big man, then certainly Lopez is going ahead of Mayo, but if it's a team that already has a big man...

I didn't say he was selfish. Every game I ever watched the kid play, he was in control of the offense, brought the ball up the floor, etc. which would be a sign of running the point even if he was listed as such or not. I know he played it at Rose Hill. I only saw him one time at NCH, and he played the point that game, and he always had the ball in his hands in the one game at Huntington I saw him play. I'd have to say he played the point from what I have seen.

 

If he wants to start in the NBA from the outset, he will play the point.

I think OJ is ready for the next level. He proved this year at USC that he could even though he would have loved to be in the NBA already.

 

However, I am confused. I thought during the tournament they were saying OJ had said he wanted to win a national title before moving on. Maybe I am thinking of another player though.
