April 7, 200818 yr Heard this guy on the radio today, I remembered him from last year on the same radio program. Ronald Weinland is the pastor of God’s Church, he has been a minister in the Church of God for more than twenty-five years. In a nut shell, he claims the beginning of the end starts next Thursday, April 17th. My wife and I, as well as Johnny and Myrtle Harrell, will be visiting Israel from April 14th through April 21st. We will be in Jerusalem on April 17th which is the day the First Trumpet of the Seventh Seal sounds. The process of all that will occur, with the sounding of the First Trumpet, will begin on April 17th and continue to increase in destructive power (consequences) for the following seven weeks. The Second Trumpet will not sound until after the Day of Pentecost. This does not mean it is near that date, but it means it cannot happen until after that day. The actual beginning of the specific job God has for His two end-time witnesses (two end-time prophets) begins to unfold on April 17th. As I have already stated, I am one of those witnesses and the spokesman of both. April 8, 200818 yr the whole Mayan calendar thing is a misinterpretation of Mayan time. The 2012 thing is the beginning of another cycle of the calendar. Kind of like if every 5,000 years we switched over to an AD or a BC. Read 1491 by Karl Mann for a good insight on Native Americans and a little about the Mayan calendar. Jack Van Impe is using the Mayan 2012 thing to try and get more $$$ now. I've always looked at it this way. Jesus said "I come as a thief in the night". I thief isn't going to show up if you're sitting on the front porch with a shotgun. I think Christians need to worry less about an iffy interpretation of prophesy and more about service and salvation.

It's almost like these guys think they have some direct connection to this information. God has made them special. The one that has gone overboard with this topic for 20 years is Jack Van Impe. I think Oral Roberts has made a few predictions as well.

While I don't necessarily agree with what you are implying (that arguing about interpretations is fruitless, because I do believe it has some usefulness), I agree with you strongly that more of the importance should be on service and salvation. I like your thief analogy as well.
April 8, 200818 yr One of the reasons I left my church and am having second thoughts on being Baptist altogether is that I have a hard time biblically justifying the "rapture". I've done some research and all of the "scholarship" behind it is pretty iffy. It's interpreting a lot of different verses that don't really seem to have any relationship.

In Matthew 24 Jesus talks about two men in a field working...one leaves suddenly and the other is left behind. The word "Raptue" is found no where in the Bible, but there is several meanings and I'll look them up while Momma naps.

I would not say that the "rapture" is part of Baptist eschatology. Certainly, there are some fundamentalist denominations and individual churches that hold to the rapture, but I would not say that it is a widely held Southern Baptist belief.

Every Southern Baptist church I ever went to held the rapture as the truth. They even talked about it at a SBC church camp I went to once.
