As I was growing up, I most often heard it referred to as the "Second Coming". I've heard and read many disagreement over the timeframe and events, but I thought belief in Christ's return to Earth was universal among Christians. Maybe not.

Many people view the rapture and second coming as the same event...others do not. That's the difference. At it's simplest definition, which is simply the "catching up" of believers to Christ, I assume the vast majority of Christian agree on that...the differences come with the interpretation of when it happens. Some believe the rapture will happen at some time before the Second Coming and others believe they happen at the same time basically. They all have scripture to support their position. I suppose it's up to us as individuals to study it and reach our own conclusion...and hope God shows us which is correct.
April 8, 200818 yr Every Baptist Church is Independent of each other, so you can get different takes on about everything. One thing I believe is this ...When Jesus comes back and you are still on earth you will be taken with him if you believe in him as your Savior. If you don't follow the pattern and accept Jesus as your Savior you will not follow him anywhere. This is not the Baptist way, but Jesus's way. "I am the WAY". I attend every service and Bible study I can and we don't set around looking at the sky. We are loving each other and sharing Jesus, but we also study scripture.
April 8, 200818 yr Every Baptist I have ever heard talk about it believes in the pre-millenial pre-tribulation rapture. I however, do not. There's also a compelling case to be made that the entire book of Revelation is commentary about Christians' plight under Roman rule. My thoughts:thumb:
April 9, 200818 yr I would not say that the "rapture" is part of Baptist eschatology. Certainly, there are some fundamentalist denominations and individual churches that hold to the rapture, but I would not say that it is a widely held Southern Baptist belief. It is since the Fundamentalist takeover of the SBC in the 80's. :thumb:
