March 28, 200818 yr This is just sad. I really doubt I will ever step foot in another WalMart after reading this. I never really shopped there to begin with but this will definitely keep me away. The greed of the big corporations is pathetic. http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/03/25/walmart.insurance.battle/index.html
March 28, 200818 yr Large corporations impersonal, unattached to the community and its needs, and motivated only by the bottom line... film at eleven.
March 28, 200818 yr Very sad indeed. I won't even walk in a Walmart and that was long before this story came along.
March 28, 200818 yr If her lawyer is so concerned the why not sign over some of his 500k+ fee? In fact assuming he was paid on contigincy, shouldn't his fee be adjusted downward because of this?

The greed of the big corporations is pathetic. http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/03/25/walmart.insurance.battle/index.html The problem, especially in alot of smaller towns across Ky is that WalMart is the only store to shop...most of the mom & pop stores have folded because WalMart took their business leaving customers no other option!
March 28, 200818 yr I haven't been in a Wal Mart in about 5 years. Hate the place. WalMart is everything thats wrong with America, corporate greed, putting small businesses out of business. No ethics, the whole place disgusts me...

March 28, 200818 yr I hate Walmart and avoid it if at all possible. With that being said, while I feel sad for the family involved and agree with most that Walmart certainly doesnt need to money they took from her, she should have read her benefits package in full detail. She signed the papers for the package and Walmart was well with in their rights to take that money back. It's not fair, but it's legal. I'm sure if this story gets enough press a donor will make sure the family gets the money they deserve. I'm sure it will work out for them in the end.
March 28, 200818 yr Wal-Mart only cares about the bottom line, no shocker there. They are the only option here in Maysville. Well, I'm sure if I looked hard enough I could get by on a few smaller stores here and there, but they are the most convenient option right now. I can assure you that when I get my degree and leave this wonderful town, I will avoid that place like the plague, for all the reasons listed in this thread and then some.

Big business and America go hand in hand.
March 28, 200818 yr Its more an insurance issue that Wal-mart, I work in insurance and see this all the time where health insurance providers place a lien on someones settlement because they paid for health care that was a result of a car crash. It's wrong but it happens and I'm sure most of your all's health care providers would do the same thing. No I have not affiliation to Wal-Mart other than working in the Garden Center for 2 1/2 years in college.

Well that explains a lot. I agree, I have worked at an insurance company before and I realize all the red tape that goes with it. Just frustrating to see a story like this that gets caught up in the bottom line.
March 28, 200818 yr Sorry, but I don't see what Walmart did that was so wrong. Subrogation is a fact of life with insurance.

I certainly agree with all of the statements above and will say that Wal Mart is not the only culprit, probably just the biggest or most popular. Lowes is another one that comes to mind, there is one small town hardware store in Russell,Ky. that reflects this same sentiment. The fact is that people will go (for the most part) to the place with the best prices. Wal Mart, Lowes and corporations like this realize it and just do not care, the almghty $$$$ is the bottom line. Has anyone esle thought of the Alan Jackson son "The Little Man" when reading this thread? I certainly have and it was the first thing that I thought of. Alan Jackson is a great song writer as well as singer. Jackson's song describes what is happening and has already happenend and nails it. Small town "mom and pop" stores were what America was built on, I will shop at them when at all possible. They are getting fewer and farther between and I will use the line from the song....... "God Bless The Little Man":thumb::thumb:

If you want to look at the world with black and white goggles on I guess you are right. How about the simple fact that they have put thousands of mom & pop business who have families out of business over the past 25 yrs. That is enough for me brother.
