Just a few lines to say waht a great job Coach Henley has done at Holmes over the past two years. Three years ago when Henley had Rice, and Henderson, and a team that really played "I" ball instead of team ball, I didn't know how long he would last in Covington. As a Bluebird fan, I do have to say that he has really got those kids to buy into what he is saying and gaot a great team concept going. With three returning starters, juniors to be, I would have to say that Henley and the Dawgs, could be a state contender again for the next two years. Congrats to those guys on representing the 9th Region very well and on two great seasons in a row.

Coach H has earned all the respect in the world from me, definetely not the easiest situation to be put into but he has done a fine job :thumb:.

Coach Henley does an excellent job at Holmes.

This was by far one of the most patient, disciplined Holmes teams that I have ever seen.

 

I thought that on Saturday morning he did a great job (all's well that ends well) of letting his team play through a rough start, got behind by 17 and didn't panic his team. Got them in position to get in position to win the game and then got the job done.

 

I also think that some fans (and posters on here) equate "steal the ball" with defense. I thought that Holmes did a good job of "defending."

Henley has done a fantastic job. I think it helps that he has a staff that can relate to the players and the players can relate to. I think he has the best JV coach in the area especially for Holmes.

Holmes played with such dignity and respect....we are all very proud of their accomplishments this season. I too have witnessed the "I" team from the Bulldogs in the past, and as a fan, it is very frustrating to see a team break down during a game. The 07-08 Bulldogs must have listened and learned from the past. They worked as a team, won as a team, and are the runner up in the state. Congratulations to the Holmes Bulldogs, and thanks for a great season! I look forward to the coming years!

What a great accomplishment!

I had not seen them play until this weekend, but I was very impressed. They played so composed under pressure, even when behind by 17 to Catholic. Great job to coaches and players.

Following the northern Ky threads on BGP throughout the year gives some perspective on who is pulling for whom. Some of the recent posts on Holmes, Coach Henley and Arrez have been dismissed as "homer" comments from Holmes fans. I have noticed that many of the rave reviews given to Coach Henley, Arrez and the Holmes squad are from fans throughout northern Ky. I see posts from Highlands fans, New. Cath. fans, Beechwood fans, Cov. Cath. fans, Campbell County fans, etc. etc., offering words of glowing praise. Add mine to the list. Coach Henley and the Holmes squad did an exemplary job throughout the year. At Rupp on Friday and Saturday I saw fans wearing colors from across Northern Kentucky on their feet cheering for the Bulldogs. When Elijah Pittman was taken down while attempting a layup in the Lex. Cath. game, the two fans yelling the loudest for a flagrant foul to be called in my section were wearing a Cov. Cath. jacket and a Holy Cross sweater. An A+++ season for Coach Henley and the Bulldogs.

Coach Henley is one of Kentucky's best coaches. His ability to mold young men together and make them fundamentally better has to be his trademark. He also acts like he has been there before...never rattled or tore up from the floor up like some get... once they put their feet on Rupp Arena's floor.

 

He also has a great staff in place and they seem to work very well together. They will guard people and that's hard to get young talented basketball players to do this day and age. They were very fun to watch and their players play extremely hard for him.

 

Coach Henley makes it look easy in making that team play hard, playing together, and playing smart basketball.

 

Holmes High School should be very proud and feel luck to have David Henley and his staff as their coaches.

 

Also, didn't Holmes have a Freshman standout who had a broken foot not play?

 

Arrez Henderson was a pleasure to watch and the Johnson brothers along with Elijah Pittman are going to be special next season.

Henley knows how to get to his guys, that is for sure.

 

This may be slightly off topic, but if Henley keeps up what he is doing, could there be bigger opportunities for him on the horizon?

I think he does an excellent job! Holmes is lucky to have him as a coach.

 

I do however, believe they should have gotten after it more in the championship game, but hey, he got to the championship game and did an amazing job getting his team ready.

I have to admit, I am from the NKY area, but was trying to be a non-bias viewer throughout the sweet 16. But when Riley gave Pittman the dish near the end of the the LexCath game in where he converted it to a bucket to put them up four with a free throw coming I could not help but give it a small fist pump....

Agreed. Nice job to all involved at Holmes. They have raised the bar for the ninth region.

If you can go through an entire season and only lose 3 games you have to be doing something right. Congrats Coach Henley and the Holmes Bulldogs!
